Halloween · West Village · Updated October 19, 2026
Eleven bars within five minutes of the parade route, plus ours at eight. Here is when each one closes.
On Saturday, October 31, 2026 the Village Halloween Parade fills 6th Avenue from King Street to West 15th Street, from 7:00 PM until about 11:00 PM. The route itself is alcohol-free, so the drinks happen a block or two away. We measured the walks and read every bar’s own hours, ours included.
- Parade facts from halloween-nyc.com, read October 19, 2026
- Eleven neighbors’ own sites read the same day
- Walks measured to the nearest 6th Avenue corner
- Saturday closing times as printed
- Heated secret backyard garden at 118 Christopher Street
The hard part of choosing a bar near the Village Halloween Parade is not finding one. It is finding one you can reach through the crowd that is still pouring when the last band goes by. The parade’s own Watch page says the sidewalks are most crowded between Bleecker Street and 14th Street, and its March page calls the night “a 0% tolerance for alcohol event”, so nobody drinks along the route.
So on October 5, 2026 we read the parade’s Watch, March and Tickets pages, then the hours, booking and events pages of eleven bars within five minutes’ walk of 6th Avenue, and measured each walk in Google Maps. Our West Village bar at 118 Christopher Street is in the table as well. It is the farthest of the twelve from the route, and under its regular hours it closes first.
The closest bars to the route are 3 Sheets on West 3rd Street and Down the Hatch on West 4th Street, each about a minute from 6th Avenue and open until 4:00 AM on Saturdays. For a table you can book, The Spaniard on West 4th Street takes Resy reservations and serves food until 2:00 AM, and Houston Hall, two minutes from the south end of the route, takes reservations online and closes at 2:00 AM. Nine of the eleven neighbors print a 4:00 AM Saturday close.
Our bar, The Beer Garage at 118 Christopher Street, is eight minutes west of 6th Avenue and three minutes from the 1 train, with a heated backyard garden. Our regular Saturday hours run from noon to midnight, and as of October 19 we had not posted a Halloween schedule.
Our West Village kitchen is a standard one, and its printed menu labels no dish gluten-free, so it is not the stop for a celiac guest. Our Park Slope bar in Brooklyn is: the menu there is headed “100% gluten-free”, as our gluten-free sports bar in NYC guide explains.
Near the parade route, cider and wine are safer orders for a gluten-free guest than draft beer, which is brewed from barley unless it says otherwise.
The Village Halloween Parade 2026: route, times and rules
Everything in this table comes from the parade’s own website, halloween-nyc.com, as it read on October 5, 2026 and again on October 19, 2026. It is the 53rd parade, its theme is “Body & Soul”, the performance artist Joey Arias is Grand Marshal, and new Firehorse puppets by Basil Twist lead it off.
| What | As the parade prints it |
|---|---|
| Date and start | Saturday, October 31, 2026, 7:00 PM, “rain or shine” |
| Route for watching | Up 6th Avenue from King Street to West 15th Street, from either side of the avenue |
| End | “Around 11:00 pm” |
| Busiest stretch | Between Bleecker Street and 14th Street |
| Marching | Costume required; lineup at Canal Street and 6th Avenue, 6:30 to 9:00 PM, entered only from the east and south |
| Alcohol | “A 0% tolerance for alcohol event” |
| Cost | Free to watch or march; skip-the-line marching $125, VIP standing $250, VIP seating $450 |
| On TV | Live on NY1, 8:00 to 9:30 PM |
| Afterparty | The Vampire Ball at Industry City in Brooklyn, October 30 and 31, 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM, 21 and over |
Two lines in that table decide the bar plan. Nobody drinks on the route, and the busiest stretch, Bleecker to 14th, is where ten of the eleven bars below meet 6th Avenue. A bar a few minutes off the avenue gives you a drink before 7:00 PM, a place to warm up between bands, and somewhere to go when the route empties around 11:00 PM.
Bar near the Village Halloween Parade: twelve choices by walk to 6th Avenue
Sorted by the walk from each bar’s door to the nearest corner of the route. Hours are each bar’s printed Saturday hours; “not mentioned” means we found nothing about bookings on its site.

| The Beer Garage, 118 Christopher St | 8 minutes, 0.3 mile, to Christopher St | Noon to midnight, our regular hours | No booking link; call 646-490-4301 | Heated backyard garden; 3 minutes from the 1 train |
The late end of the night is well covered: nine of the eleven neighbors print a 4:00 AM close on Saturdays, and the other two close at 2:00 AM. Bookings are rarer. The Spaniard and Houston Hall take reservations online, 3 Sheets by Instagram message and Wogies by a weekly form, while the Stonewall Inn and Cellar Dog say they take none. None of the eleven had posted Halloween-night plans on the pages we read on October 5, 2026, or when we read them again on October 19, so check each bar’s own page in the last week of October.
Where you stand on 6th Avenue, and the bar behind you
The route runs north from King Street, and each stretch of it has its own nearest bars. These are the four stretches the table covers.
Houston and King streets: the south end
Viewing starts at King Street, a block below Houston. Houston Hall is two minutes from 6th Avenue at West Houston Street. The marchers’ lineup is farther south still, at Canal Street, twenty minutes’ walk from our door.
West 3rd and West 4th streets
Four bars sit within three minutes of the avenue here: 3 Sheets and Off the Wagon on the east side, Down the Hatch and The Spaniard on the west. The West 4 St–Washington Sq subway station is on this corner, seven minutes’ walk from us. This stretch is already inside the part of the route the parade calls most crowded.
Bleecker Street to Christopher Street
Blind Tiger, the Stonewall Inn, Kettle of Fish and Cellar Dog are four or five minutes west of the avenue, and our bar is eight. The 1 train’s Christopher St–Stonewall station is three minutes from our door.
West 10th Street and north
Julius’ on West 10th Street and Wogies on Greenwich Avenue are three or four minutes from 6th Avenue. North of 14th Street you are past the stretch the parade calls most crowded, and the route ends at West 15th.
Our bar on parade night, honestly
What we offer is a short list. The Beer Garage West Village is eight minutes’ walk from 6th Avenue at Christopher Street and three minutes from the 1 train, west of the busiest part of the route. Our homepage describes a heated secret backyard garden, which counts for something on the last night of October. Our online menu prints a burger at $18, wings at $16 and stacked nachos at $17, with beer by the pitcher from $35 or by the tower at $70.
What we lack is just as plain. Under our regular hours we close at midnight on Saturdays, earlier than all eleven neighbors in the table. We publish no booking link for the West Village, so a table means calling 646-490-4301. And as of October 19 we had posted nothing about Halloween night, so check our homepage or call before you come.
Our suggestion is to come early: a drink with us from noon, then the eight-minute walk to the corner of Christopher Street and 6th Avenue for the 7:00 PM start. For the hours after the parade, the rest of the neighborhood is in our guides to unique bars in the West Village and backyard garden bars.
Which bar for which plan
Four bars, four ways to spend the night, each described from its own site or, for us, our own menu and homepage.
3 Sheets, 134 West 3rd Street. A minute from 6th Avenue, for the shortest walk.
- Best for staying right by the route: 24 big screens, the upstairs Lido Deck, open until 4:00 AM, and reservations by Instagram message.
- Skip if you want distance from the crowd; it sits inside the busiest stretch.
The Spaniard, 190 West 4th Street. Two minutes from 6th Avenue, for a booked table and late food.
- Best for a group that wants a reservation: Resy bookings, Saturday hours from 11:00 AM to 4:00 AM, and a kitchen open until 2:00 AM.
- Skip if you arrive hungry between 3:30 and 5:00 PM; Saturday brunch ends at 3:30 and dinner starts at 5:00.
Cellar Dog, 75 Christopher Street. Five minutes from 6th Avenue, for music after the parade.
- Best for a jazz ending: live music from 7:00 PM until 2:00 AM on Saturdays, nine pool tables, and the bar open until 4:00 AM.
- Skip if you mind a cover or want dinner: it is $10 after 6:00 PM on Saturdays, and the food is kettle chips and charcuterie packs, though outside food is welcome.
The Beer Garage, 118 Christopher Street. Our own bar, eight minutes from 6th Avenue.
- Best for the hours before the parade: a heated backyard garden, an $18 burger, pitchers from $35, and the 1 train three minutes away.
- Skip if you plan to keep going past midnight; we close first.

Houston Hall says it admits guests 21 and over only and asks for a physical ID at the door, the Stonewall Inn also asks for a proper physical ID, and Cellar Dog is 21 and over after 6:00 PM. Pack the ID before you finish the costume. The parade allows no alcohol, so finish your drink before you leave the bar, and take the subway, which the parade itself recommends for getting there.
Before you go: five warnings
No drinks on 6th Avenue. The parade calls itself “a 0% tolerance for alcohol event”. Your drink stays in the bar.
Leave the car at home. It is the first tip on the parade’s Watch page, and buses on Sixth Avenue are re-routed from just after 6:00 PM until the parade is over.
Check the subway on the day. The Watch page lists station changes, but parts of it are carried over from earlier years: it still names the 9 train, which stopped running in 2005. Use the MTA’s own service notices.
Bookings open late, or not at all. Wogies opens its reservation form every Monday at 10:00 AM for that week, which makes Monday, October 26 the day to try for Halloween. The Stonewall Inn and Cellar Dog say they take no reservations.
Mind the cover, and our closing time. Cellar Dog charges $10 after 6:00 PM on Saturdays. The Stonewall Inn’s listed shows had no cover on October 19, but Halloween night was not listed yet. We close at midnight under our regular Saturday hours.

Two questions, sixteen answers, all taken from the tables above.
1. Where on 6th Avenue will you watch?
2. What matters most?
Houston Hall, 222 West Houston Street. Two minutes from 6th Avenue, with a “Reserve a table” link on its homepage. Open 11:30 AM to 2:00 AM on Saturdays; 21 and over with a physical ID.
Houston Hall. Its menu prints beef sliders, a Buffalo wings platter at $16.95 or a bucket of 21 wings for $45, and a giant Bavarian pretzel.
Houston Hall, until 2:00 AM. For a 4:00 AM close, walk north along the route to 3 Sheets or Down the Hatch, each about a minute from 6th Avenue.
Houston Hall. Its sports page says it shows games on four 12-foot screens.
The Spaniard, 190 West 4th Street. Reservations on Resy, two minutes from 6th Avenue, open until 4:00 AM with the kitchen serving until 2:00 AM.
The Spaniard or Off the Wagon. The Spaniard’s kitchen closes at 2:00 AM; Off the Wagon, on MacDougal Street, serves food until midnight.
Down the Hatch, 179 West 4th Street. About a minute from 6th Avenue and open until 4:00 AM, as are 3 Sheets, The Spaniard and Off the Wagon.

The Beer Garage, 118 Christopher Street. Among our neighbors on this stretch, the Stonewall Inn and Cellar Dog say they take no reservations, and Blind Tiger and Kettle of Fish mention none. To ask about a table with us, call 646-490-4301.
The Beer Garage. Eight minutes west of 6th Avenue, with a burger at $18, wings at $16 and stacked nachos at $17 on our menu. Our kitchen is standard, not gluten-free.
Kettle of Fish and the Stonewall Inn. A few doors apart on Christopher Street, four minutes from 6th Avenue, both open until 4:00 AM. Cellar Dog, at number 75, adds jazz and a $10 cover.
The Beer Garage. A sports bar eight minutes from 6th Avenue, with pitchers from $35. We close at midnight under our regular Saturday hours.
Wogies, 39 Greenwich Avenue. Its weekly reservation form opens on Monday, October 26 at 10:00 AM for Halloween week; walk-ins get bar seats and standing room.
Wogies. Three minutes from 6th Avenue, with the kitchen open until midnight on Saturdays and the bar until 2:00 AM.
Julius’, 159 West 10th Street. Four minutes from 6th Avenue and open until 4:00 AM on Saturdays, according to its party page.
The Beer Garage, 118 Christopher Street. Our sports bar is eight minutes west of 6th Avenue at Christopher Street, the south edge of this stretch. We close at midnight.
How we checked
On October 5, 2026 we read the Village Halloween Parade’s official Home, Watch, March and Tickets pages at halloween-nyc.com, then the website of each bar on this page: its hours, reservations, events and specials pages, and for Julius’ the party page where its hours are printed. Where a site said nothing about bookings, the table says “not mentioned”. None of the eleven had posted Halloween-night plans on those pages that day. On October 19, 2026 we read the parade pages and all eleven sites again: the parade facts, Saturday hours and booking rules were unchanged, Wogies had moved its West Village hours to a new page, and none of the shows the Stonewall Inn listed carried a cover.
Walks were measured in Google Maps walking mode from each bar’s door to the nearest corner of 6th Avenue on the route. For our own bar we used our homepage and our online ordering menu. No venue paid to appear.
Eight minutes from the parade, with a heated garden
The Beer Garage West Village, 118 Christopher Street, New York, NY 10014. Open from noon on Saturdays; from 3:00 PM Monday to Thursday, 2:00 PM Friday and 1:00 PM Sunday. We close at 11:00 PM, or midnight on Friday and Saturday.
Our Brooklyn room is at 148 5th Avenue in Park Slope, 718-576-3409, with a fully gluten-free kitchen and OpenTable bookings.
Frequently asked questions
What is a good bar near the Village Halloween Parade?
For the shortest walk, 3 Sheets at 134 West 3rd Street and Down the Hatch at 179 West 4th Street, each about a minute from 6th Avenue and open until 4:00 AM on Saturdays. For a booked table, The Spaniard on Resy or Houston Hall online. For a heated garden before the parade, The Beer Garage at 118 Christopher Street, eight minutes from the route.
When and where is the Village Halloween Parade in 2026?
On Saturday, October 31, 2026. It starts at 7:00 PM and ends around 11:00 PM, rain or shine, and runs up 6th Avenue from King Street to West 15th Street. Marchers in costume line up at Canal Street and 6th Avenue between 6:30 and 9:00 PM.
Can you drink alcohol at the Village Halloween Parade?
No. The parade’s own March page calls it a 0% tolerance for alcohol event. The bars a few minutes off 6th Avenue are the place for a drink, before 7:00 PM or after the parade ends around 11:00 PM.
Which bars near the parade stay open late?
By their own sites, read October 19, 2026, nine of the eleven bars in our table close at 4:00 AM on Saturdays: 3 Sheets, Down the Hatch, The Spaniard, Off the Wagon, the Stonewall Inn, Kettle of Fish, Blind Tiger, Julius’ and Cellar Dog. Houston Hall and Wogies close at 2:00 AM, and The Beer Garage at midnight.
Which bars near the parade take reservations?
The Spaniard takes Resy reservations and Houston Hall takes them online. 3 Sheets asks you to message it on Instagram, and Wogies opens a weekly request form every Monday at 10:00 AM. The Stonewall Inn and Cellar Dog say they take no reservations. To ask about a table at The Beer Garage, call 646-490-4301.
Is The Beer Garage open on Halloween night?
Our regular Saturday hours in the West Village are noon to midnight, and October 31, 2026 is a Saturday. We had not posted a Halloween schedule when this page was checked again on October 19, so call 646-490-4301 before you come.
The verdict
A bar near the Village Halloween Parade is easy to find; one that is reachable, open and still serving at 11:00 PM takes a little planning. 3 Sheets and Down the Hatch are the closest to the route, The Spaniard and Houston Hall are the ones you can book, and nine of the eleven stay open until 4:00 AM.
Our garden on Christopher Street is where we would start the night: a burger, a pitcher, and the eight-minute walk to 6th Avenue before 7:00 PM. It is not where we would end it, because we close at midnight and the bars nearer the route keep going for hours after that.
