The honest answer to a search for a gluten free beer and cider bar NYC is a list, not a room: there is no bar in the city we know of that pours only gluten-free beer. So on October 1, 2026 we read the drinks menus bars publish on their own websites, from the West Village to Harlem and Park Slope, and wrote down every beer they label gluten-free and every cider beside it.

Seven rooms list one. For three of those beers the brewer says, on its own site, that no barley goes in; one is a barley beer with the gluten broken down; for two we could not confirm either way; and one bar does not name its brands. Our own room, The Beer Garage in Park Slope, has a kitchen that is gluten-free on every plate but does not publish its drinks list, and the table says so.

Short answer

For the most to choose from, Senza Gluten at 206 Sullivan Street is a 100% gluten-free restaurant that lists two Glutenberg beers at $16 and Original Sin cider at $11. For a gluten-free beer at a bar, Due West at 189 West 10th Street lists Green’s dry-hopped lager at $13, and Blind Tiger at 281 Bleecker Street lists Ghostfish’s Kick Step IPA at $9 a can; both brewers say their beers are made from gluten-free grains.

In Park Slope, Fourth Avenue Pub lists Green’s amber ale at $9.36. If you have celiac disease, cider is the simpler order: the Celiac Disease Foundation counts hard cider as gluten-free.

Gluten-free, gluten-removed and cider

Three different things share the same menu line. A gluten-free beer can be brewed from grains that contain no gluten, such as sorghum, millet, rice or buckwheat. A gluten-removed beer is brewed from barley and treated with an enzyme, and the National Celiac Association does not recommend it for people with celiac disease, because no test can accurately measure gluten in a fermented drink. Hard cider, made from apples, is gluten-free according to the Celiac Disease Foundation.

None of this changes the plate. At 148 5th Avenue every dish from the Park Slope kitchen is gluten-free; our West Village kitchen is a standard one.

Gluten free beer and cider bar NYC: who prints a gluten-free beer

Every beer below is named on the bar’s own menu, in the bar’s own words, read on October 1, 2026. The last column is what the brewer says on its own website about how the beer is made.

Beers labeled gluten-free or gluten-removed on New York bar menus, read October 1, 2026, with each brewer’s own description.
Room Area Gluten-free beer on its menu Price printed What the brewer says
The Beer Garage, 148 5th Ave Park Slope Drinks list not published; every plate is gluten-free Not published Not applicable
Senza Gluten, 206 Sullivan St Greenwich Village Glutenberg IPA; Glutenberg Blonde $16 each Not confirmed; Glutenberg’s site would not load for us
Due West, 189 W 10th St West Village Green’s Gluten Free Dry Hopped Lager $13 Brewed from sorghum, millet, brown rice and buckwheat
Blind Tiger Ale House, 281 Bleecker St West Village Ghostfish Kick Step IPA, 12-oz can $9 Brewed from naturally gluten-free grains
Art Bar, 52 8th Ave West Village Athletic Upside Dawn, non-alcoholic, marked “Gluten Removed” $6.50 Gluten removed, as the menu says; not a gluten-free-grain beer
Beer Culture, 328 W 45th St Hell’s Kitchen “A selection of” gluten-free beers in its bottle shop, none named Not printed Ask which brand
Harlem Hops, 2268 Adam Clayton Powell Jr Blvd Harlem Tin Barn Dropacana, Gluten Free Edition, 16-oz can $12 Not stated on Tin Barn’s site
Fourth Avenue Pub, 76 4th Ave Park Slope Green’s Discovery Amber Ale, can $9.36 Brewed from sorghum, millet, brown rice and buckwheat
Gowanus Gardens, 256 4th Ave Park Slope Daura Damm Lager, listed as “Gluten-Free”, bottle $8 Made from barley malt and “crafted to remove gluten”

Two brands do most of the work. Green’s, a Belgian brewer, is on two lists, at Due West in the West Village and Fourth Avenue Pub in Park Slope; Ghostfish, from Seattle, is at Blind Tiger. Those three are the beers on this page whose brewers say, on their own sites, that they start from gluten-free grains. The only room that pairs a gluten-free beer with a gluten-free kitchen is Senza Gluten. Blind Tiger, Harlem Hops and Fourth Avenue Pub print an update time on their lists, so those three are the easiest to check before you leave.

Read the brewer, not the menu heading

A menu heading is the bar’s shorthand, and on this page it hides the difference that matters most. Gowanus Gardens lists Daura Damm as “Gluten-Free”. Damm, the brewer, describes the same beer as “crafted to remove gluten”, made with barley malt and treated so that each batch tests below 3 parts per million. That is a gluten-removed beer, and the National Celiac Association’s advice on those is to skip them if you have celiac disease.

Art Bar is clearer: its menu marks Athletic’s Upside Dawn as “Gluten Removed”. For two beers we could not settle the question. Glutenberg’s site would not load past a security check when we tried, and Tin Barn’s site says nothing about how its gluten-free edition is made, so ask the bar to show you the can.

Cider, the easier order

Cider needs no decoding: the Celiac Disease Foundation lists hard cider as gluten-free, with the usual caution about flavored and mixed drinks. Most of the bars we read print one, and these six give you the most to choose from or the clearest label.

Selected cider lists on New York bar menus, read October 1, 2026.
Bar Area Ciders on its menu Price printed
Houston Hall, 222 W Houston St West Village Downeast, marked “(GF)”, the only cider we found labeled gluten-free $11, $15 or $27 by size; $9 at happy hour
High Dive, 243 5th Ave Park Slope Five, on a list dated September 30: Woodchuck Pearsecco, Downeast Cider Donut, Brooklyn Bone Dry, Brooklyn Rosé and Dupont Bouché from France $5 to $17
Gowanus Gardens, 256 4th Ave Park Slope Downeast on tap, a Shacksbury rosé can and a cider spritz with Prosecco $7, $7, $11
Senza Gluten, 206 Sullivan St Greenwich Village Original Sin apple cider, beside a 100% gluten-free kitchen $11
Harlem Hops, 2268 Adam Clayton Powell Jr Blvd Harlem Seven, including a Normandy cidre on draft and five from Hudson North $5 to $11 a pour or can
Treadwell Park, 1125 1st Ave Upper East Side Seven, including Wölffer’s dry rosé cider $10 to $11 a can or bottle

For the full cider picture by neighborhood, we keep separate guides to the cider bars in Park Slope, to cider in the West Village in our West Village guide, and to the longest cider lists in Manhattan in our craft beer guide.

Our room, honestly

The Beer Garage at 148 5th Avenue is the room on this page where the food needs no questions: the Park Slope menu is printed as 100% gluten-free, every plate. The drinks are a different matter. We do not publish the Park Slope drinks list, so we cannot tell you here which gluten-free beer or cider is in the fridge tonight; call 718-576-3409 and ask before you come.

Our West Village room at 118 Christopher Street has a standard kitchen. Its online menu lists a cider at $10 and an Apple Cider Spritz at $13, and no beer marked gluten-free, so for a gluten-free beer near that room, Due West and Blind Tiger are four and five minutes away on foot.

Which room for which night

Four rooms, four different reasons to go, each from the room’s own menu.

Senza Gluten, 206 Sullivan Street. Eleven minutes on foot from our West Village room.

  • Best for a whole meal without checking anything: a 100% gluten-free Italian restaurant with two Glutenberg beers and a cider.
  • Skip if you want a bar rather than dinner, or pay with a card other than American Express; it takes American Express or cash only.

Due West, 189 West 10th Street. Four minutes from our West Village room.

  • Best for a gluten-free beer at a bar: Green’s dry-hopped lager at $13, from a brewer that uses no barley.
  • Skip if you are watching the price; it is the second-highest price here, after Senza Gluten’s.

Fourth Avenue Pub, 76 4th Avenue. Eight minutes from us in Park Slope.

  • Best for a gluten-free beer in Brooklyn: Green’s Discovery Amber Ale at $9.36, next to Downeast cider on draft.
  • Skip if you want a choice of gluten-free beers; Green’s is the only one on its list.

The Beer Garage, 148 5th Avenue. Our own room, entrance on Douglass Street.

  • Best for dinner that is gluten-free on every plate, with Fourth Avenue Pub and Gowanus Gardens eight minutes away afterwards.
  • Skip if you choose a bar by its published beer list; ours is not online, so call first.

Gluten-free in the can is not always gluten-free in the glass

Every drink here is for guests 21 and over with ID, the non-alcoholic ones aside. If you have celiac disease, ask how a gluten-free beer reaches you: a can or bottle poured at the table is the safest route, while a shared tap line or a glass that just held a regular beer is worth a question. The menus on this page do not say how they handle it.

Before you go

Ask for the can. Seven rooms list a gluten-free beer, but only three of those beers come with the brewer’s own word that no barley was used. Glutenberg and Tin Barn could not be confirmed, and Daura Damm is a gluten-removed beer.

Lists change. Blind Tiger’s and Harlem Hops’ lists were updated on the morning of October 1, Fourth Avenue Pub’s between September 24 and 30, and High Dive’s is dated September 30; the others carry no date, so call if one beer is the reason for the trip.

One bar names nothing. Beer Culture says its bottle shop carries gluten-free and non-alcoholic beers but does not list them online.

Payment at Senza Gluten. Its menu says it accepts American Express cards or cash only.

How we checked

How we checked

On October 1, 2026 we read the drinks menus that bars across Manhattan and Brooklyn publish on their own websites, including the beer lists they embed from menu services, and searched each one for beers labeled gluten-free or gluten-removed and for ciders. We then read each brewer’s own website for how the beer is made. Many lists we read, from Park Slope to the Upper East Side, print no gluten-free beer at all; that is a statement about the menu online, not the fridge.

Walks were measured in Google Maps walking mode from our two rooms. Guidance on gluten-removed beer and cider comes from the National Celiac Association and the Celiac Disease Foundation. No bar paid to appear.

A gluten-free dinner, then the right glass

The Beer Garage Park Slope, 148 5th Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11217, entrance on Douglass Street. Every plate from the kitchen is gluten-free; $7 drafts and $1.50 oysters from 3:00 to 7:00 PM, Monday to Thursday. Open until 10:00 PM, and 11:00 PM on Friday and Saturday.

Our Manhattan room is at 118 Christopher Street in the West Village, 646-490-4301; its kitchen is standard, not gluten-free.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I find gluten-free beer in NYC?

On October 1, 2026, seven rooms listed gluten-free beer on their own sites: Due West and Blind Tiger in the West Village, Senza Gluten in Greenwich Village, Harlem Hops, Fourth Avenue Pub and Gowanus Gardens in Park Slope, and Beer Culture in Hell’s Kitchen, which does not name its brands.

Which gluten-free beers in NYC are brewed without barley?

Green’s, at Due West and Fourth Avenue Pub, and Ghostfish, at Blind Tiger. Green’s says it brews from sorghum, millet, brown rice and buckwheat, and Ghostfish says it uses naturally gluten-free grains.

Is gluten-removed beer safe for celiacs?

The National Celiac Association does not recommend it, because no test can accurately measure gluten in a fermented drink. Daura Damm, listed as gluten-free at Gowanus Gardens, is made from barley malt and described by its brewer as crafted to remove gluten.

Is cider gluten-free?

The Celiac Disease Foundation lists hard cider as gluten-free, along with distilled spirits and wine, but check flavored or mixed drinks. Houston Hall is the only bar we found that labels its cider, Downeast, gluten-free on the menu.

Where can I get gluten-free beer in Park Slope?

Fourth Avenue Pub at 76 4th Avenue lists Green’s Discovery Amber Ale at $9.36, and Gowanus Gardens at 256 4th Avenue lists Daura Damm, a gluten-removed beer, at $8. At The Beer Garage the food is gluten-free on every plate; call 718-576-3409 about drinks.

Does The Beer Garage serve gluten-free beer?

The Park Slope drinks list is not published, so call 718-576-3409 to ask what gluten-free beer or cider is in; every plate from the Park Slope kitchen is gluten-free. The West Village menu lists a cider at $10 and no beer marked gluten-free.

The verdict

New York does not have a gluten free beer and cider bar so much as a handful of bars that stock one good can. For a beer brewed without barley, go to Due West or Blind Tiger in the West Village, or Fourth Avenue Pub in Park Slope. For a whole meal with nothing to check, Senza Gluten. And if you have celiac disease, order cider, which needs no decoding.

We are the room on this page with a gluten-free kitchen and no published drinks list, and we would rather you heard that from us. Eat with us, call ahead about the glass, and walk eight minutes to Fourth Avenue Pub for a Green’s if the beer is the point.
