Manhattan’s craft beer map has holes in it.
A craft beer bar in Manhattan, checked against each bar’s own tap list on one day: how many lines, what a pour costs, how fresh the list is, and which famous names no longer have a working website.
- Tap lists read September 25, 2026
- 9 bars checked, 5 dead websites found
- Walks measured from 118 Christopher Street
- Prices as each bar prints them
- West Village kitchen: standard, not gluten-free
Most lists of the best craft beer bar in Manhattan were written years ago, and it shows. On September 25, 2026 we opened the website of every well-known name we could think of. Nine bars, ours included, still run working websites with menus and hours. Five well-known web addresses now show a parked page, a steakhouse or a streaming site, and three more would not load at all. One brewery we first listed as open, Torch & Crown, had in fact closed its taproom in 2025; the correction is under brewery taprooms.
So this guide only uses what each bar publishes today: its tap list, its prices and its hours. Our own room, The Beer Garage in the West Village, is in the tables too, and it is not the answer for every reader. If rare beer is the whole point of the night, a bar five minutes from us does it better, and we say which.
The craft beer bar in Manhattan with the biggest live list on September 25, 2026 is Blind Tiger Ale House at 281 Bleecker Street: 28 drafts, updated overnight, $9 to $12 a pour and open until 4:00 AM every day. Uptown, The Jeffrey lists 21 taps, Harlem Hops 16 and The Pony Bar 12; in Hell’s Kitchen, As Is pours 20. Our West Village bar lists 37 beer and cider lines, but by brewery name, not by beer.
Most beer on every list below is brewed with barley or wheat, so treat these tap lists as not gluten-free unless a bar tells you otherwise. Our West Village kitchen on Christopher Street is a standard one. The Beer Garage kitchen that is gluten-free end to end is the Park Slope one in Brooklyn; the beer question still applies there, so ask at the bar.
Craft beer bar in Manhattan: who publishes a live tap list
A tap list that updates itself is the single most useful thing a beer bar can publish, because it tells you tonight’s beer, not last year’s. Four of the bars below run one. Every count and price is from the bar’s own site, read on September 25, 2026; walks are from our door at 118 Christopher Street, measured in Google Maps walking mode the same day.
| Bar | Neighborhood | Walk from us | Lines listed | Pour prices printed | How the list is kept |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Blind Tiger Ale House, 281 Bleecker St | West Village | 5 minutes, 0.2 mile | 28 drafts | $9 to $12, pours of 8 to 16 oz | Live list, updated 2:14 AM on September 25 |
| The Beer Garage, 118 Christopher St | West Village | You are here | 37 beer and cider lines, named by brewery | $8 to $12, most $10 | Online ordering menu |
| As Is, 734 10th Ave | Hell’s Kitchen | 59 minutes, 2.6 miles | 20 drafts | From $5 for the smallest pour to $14 | Printed list; the site says to check the board |
| The Jeffrey, 311 E 60th St | Upper East Side | 1 hour 23 minutes, 3.6 miles | 21 taps | Not shown | Live list, last updated September 18 |
| Harlem Hops, 2268 Adam Clayton Powell Jr Blvd | Harlem | 2 hours 30 minutes, 6.7 miles | 16 drafts | $5 to $15, pours of 5 to 14 oz | Live list, updated 8:06 PM on September 24 |
| Treadwell Park, 1125 1st Ave | Upper East Side | 1 hour 26 minutes, 3.8 miles | 13 drafts, plus a long can list | $6 for 8 oz, $10 for 16 oz on its signature drafts | Printed menu |
| The Pony Bar, 1444 1st Ave | Upper East Side | 1 hour 41 minutes, 4.5 miles | 12 taps | $9 to $14 | Live list, updated 12:32 AM on September 25 |
Two things stand out. Downtown, Blind Tiger’s is the list to check before you leave home, and roughly a dozen of its 28 drafts come from New York State brewers. At Harlem Hops, 11 of the 16 do. And the uptown walks are there for honesty, not as a suggestion: past Midtown, take the subway.
Which bar for which kind of drinker
No bar wins every night. Here is where four of them are strongest, using only what each publishes. For football nights on our side of town, see where to watch NFL football in the West Village.
Blind Tiger Ale House, 281 Bleecker Street. Calls itself “NYC’s premier craft beer bar”, and its 28 drafts are the longest live list on this page.
- Best for the beer itself: 28 drafts with brewery, style and strength listed, updated overnight, open until 4:00 AM seven days a week.
- Skip if you want a game with the sound on; its site does not mention sports on the pages we read.
As Is, 734 10th Avenue. Twenty taps in Hell’s Kitchen, by its own count.
- Best for a beer before a show or after work in Midtown West, with small pours from $5 so you can try several.
- Skip if you want table service; the site asks you to order at the bar, and it does not print a closing time.
Harlem Hops, 2268 Adam Clayton Powell Jr Boulevard. The only Harlem entry, with a list that leans on New York State brewers.
- Best for trying local beer in small pours, $5 to $8 for 5 oz, from Wednesday to Sunday.
- Skip if it is Monday or Tuesday; its site lists hours for Wednesday to Sunday only.
The Beer Garage, 118 Christopher Street. Ours: a sports bar with a long tap wall and a heated backyard garden, not a specialist beer bar.
- Best for a game and a pitcher with a group, with 37 lines at mostly $10 and a garden out back.
- Skip if you want to know the exact beer before you order; our list names the brewery, not the beer.
Brewery taprooms in Manhattan
If “craft beer” means beer from the people who brewed it, Manhattan now has several brewery taprooms. They pour mostly their own beer, so the list is shorter but fresher. Neither of the two below prints a tap count on the pages we read.
TALEA West Village, 102 Christopher Street. A minute from our door, 180 feet by Google Maps. Open noon to 10:00 PM Monday to Thursday and Sunday, and to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays, with beer, wine, cocktails, coffee and snacks. TALEA also runs taprooms at Bryant Park and in the Penn District.
Other Half, Rockefeller Center, 600 5th Avenue. The Brooklyn brewery’s Manhattan taproom, on 48th Street between 5th and 6th Avenues. Open from noon, until 8:00 PM on Sunday and Monday and 10:00 PM Tuesday to Saturday.
Correction, October 20, 2026. An earlier version of this page listed Torch & Crown at 12 Vandam Street here, with hours read from its website. The taproom had already closed: Beer Marketer’s Insights reported on November 19, 2025 that Torch and Crown had shut its SoHo taproom, NYC Tourism lists it as out of business, and on October 20, 2026 its web address showed only a “store unavailable” page. We have removed it from this guide.

Famous names whose websites are gone
Several bars that still appear on “best craft beer in Manhattan” lists did not survive our check. We only report what we saw on September 25, 2026; a dead website is not proof that a bar has closed, so call before you go.
| Bar | What we found |
|---|---|
| Proletariat, East Village | Closed: EV Grieve reported that April 11, 2026 was its last night on 7th Street, and that its bartenders hope to revive it. Its old web address now shows a football streaming site. |
| Rattle N Hum | Its web address redirects to an unrelated blog. |
| Top Hops, Lower East Side | Its web address is a parked page offering the domain for sale. |
| Taproom No. 307 | Its web address shows a steakhouse in Westchester. |
| Good Beer | Its web address redirects to a streaming site. |
| The Ginger Man, Beer Culture, Beer Authority | Their websites did not load at all, so we could not check them. |
We have not linked to any of those addresses, and we suggest you do not visit them either. Jimmy’s No. 43 is a softer case: its site loads, but the newest thing on it is a 2021 cider festival, so we could not confirm what it pours today.
Every bar and taproom on this page serves alcohol only to guests 21 and over. Strong beers are common on these lists, some above 8 per cent, so pick a smaller pour when one is offered and sort out the ride home early.
Cider bar in Manhattan: the longest cider lists we found
We could not find a dedicated cider bar in Manhattan: a Google Maps search for one on October 1, 2026 returned a single craft beer bar, As Is. So we read the cider lines on the beer bars’ own menus instead. Two lists carry seven ciders each, and the others we could read carry one to three.
| Bar | Neighborhood | Ciders on its list | Prices printed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Harlem Hops, 2268 Adam Clayton Powell Jr Blvd | Harlem | Seven: Romilly Dry (Brut), a Normandy cidre, on draft; five Hudson North ciders and Bee Well’s The Ghost in cans | Draft $6 for 5 oz, $11 for 10 oz; cans $5 to $8 |
| Treadwell Park, 1125 1st Ave | Upper East Side | Seven: Austin Eastciders Original Dry and Downeast Cider Donut on draft; Wölffer No. 138 Dry Rosé, Hudson North Big Pumpkin, Downeast Original Blend and two more in cans and bottles | Cans and bottles $10 to $11; draft not priced by the line |
| As Is, 734 10th Ave | Hell’s Kitchen | Three: a jasmine tea cider from Brooklyn Cider and Yesfolk on draft, plus Artifact’s Feels Like Home and Brooklyn Cider House Bone Dry | Priced by pour size; its menu says to check the board |
| Blind Tiger Ale House, 281 Bleecker St | West Village | Downeast Blackberry on draft and Downeast Original Blend in cans, on a list updated at 3:22 AM on October 1 | $9 for 16 oz; $8 a can |
| The Pony Bar, 1444 1st Ave | Upper East Side | Indian Ladder Farms Peach Crusher on draft | $10 for 14 oz |
| Other Half Rockefeller Center | Midtown | A dry cider listed as Bone Dry, 6.9% | Not printed |
| The Beer Garage, 118 Christopher St | West Village | A cider on the beer list, cidery not named; Apple Cider Spritz | $10; $13 |
For New York cider, Harlem Hops has five from Hudson North in Newburgh at $5 to $7 a can, and its Romilly from Normandy is the only French cider on any list we read. Closer to us, our West Village guide compares six more cider lists within a 12-minute walk, from Downeast at $6 for 10 oz at The Half Pint to Shacksbury at $14 at Due West.
Our 37 lines, honestly
Our online ordering menu for 118 Christopher Street lists 37 beer and cider lines, which is more than any other bar on this page publishes. Nine of the names are New York State breweries: Big Ditch, Braven, Brooklyn, Catskill, Finback, Five Boroughs, Keg & Lantern, Montauk and Radiant Pig. The rest mix imports such as Weihenstephan and Delirium with national brands.
The honest catch is that the menu names the brewery, not the beer, so “Braven” does not tell you which Braven is pouring. Most lines are $10, Bud Light is $8 and Delirium is $12, with a flight at $16 and growlers at $25. The full list, brewery by brewery, is on our West Village location page.
Hours and happy hours
These are the hours each bar publishes on its own site, read September 25, 2026. On the pages we read, three bars print a happy hour window: The Pony Bar ($8 drafts from 4:20 to 6:20 PM Tuesday to Friday and all day Monday), Houston Hall at 222 West Houston Street, nine minutes from us (4:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday to Friday and all day Sunday), and Treadwell Park (select 8 oz beers at $4 and beer flights at $12, 4:00 to 7:00 PM Monday to Friday, on its menus page read October 17, 2026). We publish $8 happy hour beers but not the window, so call 646-490-4301.
| Bar | Monday to Thursday | Friday and Saturday | Sunday |
|---|---|---|---|
| Blind Tiger Ale House | 11:30 AM to 4:00 AM | Fri 11:30 AM to 4:00 AM; Sat 10:00 AM to 4:00 AM | 10:00 AM to 4:00 AM |
| The Beer Garage, West Village | 3:00 to 11:00 PM | Fri 2:00 PM to midnight; Sat noon to midnight | 1:00 to 11:00 PM |
| As Is | From 3:00 PM; close not printed | Fri from 3:00 PM; Sat from noon | From noon |
| The Jeffrey | Mon to Wed 4:00 PM to midnight; Thu noon to 1:00 AM | Noon to 1:00 AM | Noon to midnight |
| Harlem Hops | Wed and Thu 3:00 to 11:00 PM; Mon and Tue not listed | Fri 3:00 PM to midnight; Sat 1:00 to 11:00 PM | 1:00 to 9:00 PM |
| Treadwell Park | Mon to Wed 4:00 to 11:00 PM; Thu 4:00 PM to midnight | Fri 4:00 PM to 2:00 AM; Sat noon to 2:00 AM | Noon to 11:00 PM |
| The Pony Bar | 3:00 PM to midnight | Fri 3:00 PM to 3:00 AM; Sat noon to 3:00 AM | Noon to midnight |
One note on The Pony Bar: its homepage says it has poured only American-brewed beer since 2009, and the live list we read opened with Guinness Draught, which Untappd lists as brewed in Dublin. Check the list rather than the slogan if that matters to you.
Find your bar
Two questions, sixteen answers, all taken from the tables above.
1. Where are you starting?
2. What matters most?
Blind Tiger Ale House, 281 Bleecker Street. 28 drafts on a list that updates overnight, five minutes from our door. By count our 37 lines are longer, but ours are named by brewery, not by beer.
Blind Tiger Ale House, 281 Bleecker Street. Open until 4:00 AM every day of the week.
Us, or a happy hour. Our lines run $8 to $12, most at $10; Blind Tiger starts at $9. Houston Hall publishes a happy hour from 4:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday to Friday and all day Sunday.
The Beer Garage, 118 Christopher Street. A sports bar with 37 lines and a heated garden.
As Is, 734 10th Avenue. Twenty drafts in Hell’s Kitchen, with the board at the bar as the final word.
Call As Is first. It publishes opening times but not a closing time, and the Other Half taproom at Rockefeller Center closes by 10:00 PM. For a sure late night, Blind Tiger downtown runs to 4:00 AM.
As Is, 734 10th Avenue. Most lines offer a small pour for $5, a cheap way to try several beers.

The Pony Bar, 1444 1st Avenue. Open until 3:00 AM on Fridays and Saturdays. Treadwell Park runs to 2:00 AM those nights.

Call ahead. None of the three Upper East Side bars mentions sports on the pages we read.
Harlem Hops, 2268 Adam Clayton Powell Jr Boulevard. 16 drafts, 11 of them from New York State brewers.
Harlem Hops on a Friday. Open until midnight on Fridays; other nights it closes between 9:00 and 11:00 PM, and Monday and Tuesday are not listed.
Harlem Hops, small pours. 5 oz pours run $5 to $8, one of the cheapest ways on this page to try several beers.
Call Harlem Hops. Its site does not mention sports; the number is (646) 998-3444.
Use the tables above: Blind Tiger for the longest live list downtown, As Is in Midtown, The Jeffrey or The Pony Bar on the Upper East Side, Harlem Hops in Harlem, and The Beer Garage for beer with a game.
How we checked
On September 25, 2026 we opened each bar’s own website and read its tap list, prices and hours as published. Where the list is a live one, we noted when it was last updated. Where a site gave a count in words, such as “twenty taps”, we checked it against the list. We did not use review sites for any fact on this page.
Walks were measured in Google Maps walking mode from 118 Christopher Street the same day. We did not visit or taste anything for this guide, no bar paid to appear, and our own row follows the same rules.
37 lines and a heated garden on Christopher Street
The Beer Garage West Village, 118 Christopher Street, New York, NY 10014, three minutes from Christopher St-Stonewall on the 1 train. Open from 3:00 PM Monday to Thursday, 2:00 PM on Fridays, noon on Saturdays and 1:00 PM on Sundays.
Our Brooklyn room is at 148 5th Avenue in Park Slope, 718-576-3409, and its kitchen is 100 per cent gluten-free.
