Eleven of North America’s best bars are in Manhattan. Four tell you the price.
A cocktail bar in Manhattan, chosen from the 2026 North America’s 50 Best Bars list and checked against each bar’s own website: what a drink costs, how to get in, and how far each one is from our door.
- 11 Manhattan bars on the 2026 list
- 4 publish cocktail prices
- Published prices: $18 to $29
- Walks measured from 118 Christopher Street
- West Village kitchen: standard, not gluten-free
Anyone looking for the best cocktail bar in Manhattan ends up at the same list sooner or later: North America’s 50 Best Bars. The 2026 edition names 13 bars in New York City, and 11 of them are in Manhattan. On September 25, 2026 we opened each one’s own website to see what a guest can know before walking in.
The short version is that most of them keep the price of a drink to themselves. We are not on that list, and our own room, the cocktail bar at The Beer Garage in the West Village, is a sports bar with a garden, not an award-winner. But we print every drink and every price, and three of the eleven are within six minutes of us on foot.
The top-ranked cocktail bar in Manhattan is Sip & Guzzle at 29 Cornelia Street, No. 1 on North America’s 50 Best Bars 2026, six minutes from us. Of the eleven Manhattan bars on that list, four print cocktail prices on their own sites: Employees Only ($18 to $24), Superbueno ($18.50 to $22.50), Double Chicken Please ($19 to $22) and Clemente Bar ($23 to $29 on a sample menu). Ours are $14 and $15.
None of the eleven bars, and not us either, publishes a gluten-free cocktail list, so ask about liqueurs, syrups and beer-based drinks at the bar. Our West Village kitchen on Christopher Street is a standard one; the fully gluten-free Beer Garage kitchen is the Park Slope one in Brooklyn.
Cocktail bar in Manhattan: the eleven, and what each publishes
The ranking below is North America’s 50 Best Bars 2026. Everything else is from each bar’s own website, read on September 25, 2026, and the walks were measured from 118 Christopher Street in Google Maps walking mode the same day. Bar Madonna and Maison Premiere made the list too, but both are in Brooklyn.
| Rank | Bar | Neighborhood | Walk from us | Cocktail prices on its site |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Sip & Guzzle, 29 Cornelia St | West Village | 6 minutes, 0.3 mile | No; food, spirits, wine and beer are priced |
| 3 | Bar Snack, 92 2nd Ave | East Village | 25 minutes, 1.1 miles | No menu online |
| 4 | Schmuck, 97 1st Ave | East Village | 28 minutes, 1.3 miles | No website of its own that we could find |
| 9 | Superbueno, 13 1st Ave | East Village | 28 minutes, 1.2 miles | Yes: $18.50 to $22.50 |
| 15 | Clemente Bar, 11 Madison Ave | Flatiron | 32 minutes, 1.4 miles | Yes, as a sample menu: $23 to $29 |
| 23 | Martiny’s, 121 E 17th St | Gramercy | 27 minutes, 1.2 miles | No menu online |
| 31 | Angel’s Share, 45 Grove St | West Village | 3 minutes, 0.1 mile | No menu online |
| 33 | Overstory, 70 Pine St, 64th floor | Financial District | 47 minutes, 2.1 miles | No; a $100 per person minimum on reservations |
| 35 | Double Chicken Please, 115 Allen St | Lower East Side | 34 minutes, 1.5 miles | Yes: $19 to $22 |
| 37 | Attaboy, 134 Eldridge St | Lower East Side | 34 minutes, 1.5 miles | No menu; the site says “just knock” |
| 45 | Employees Only, 510 Hudson St | West Village | 1 minute, 348 feet | Yes: $18 to $24 |
Four out of eleven is not a scandal, and Attaboy’s site shows no list at all by design. It does mean that at seven of the best cocktail bars in the city, you cannot check the price of a drink before you arrive.
What a cocktail costs where the price is printed
These are the four bars that publish prices, with ours for comparison. Prices are as printed, before tax and tip.
| Bar | Cocktails | Without alcohol | What else the menu shows |
|---|---|---|---|
| Employees Only | $21 for classics, modern and dessert drinks; $24 for its fancy cocktails and espresso martini | $18 | Every drink with its spirit and method |
| Superbueno | $18.50 to $22.50 | Not on the list we read | A shared tepache at $48.50 for two or $96.50 for four |
| Double Chicken Please | $19 to $22 | Mocktail versions of some drinks | A $9 house shot, and drinks built to taste like dishes |
| Clemente Bar | $23 to $29 | $18 | Labeled a sample menu, subject to change |
| The Beer Garage, West Village | $15 for our seven signatures; $14 to $15 for classics, $18 for a Long Island | $10 | $13 spritzes and $8 happy hour drinks; the happy hour window is not published |
So a cocktail at a ranked Manhattan bar that shows its price runs from $18 to $29. Ours cost less because we are a different kind of room, not because we pour a better drink; the full list is on our West Village cocktail page.
Walk in, book or knock
How you get through the door matters as much as the price. This is what each bar says about it on its own site.
Walk-in only: Bar Snack, which also turns away groups larger than six on Fridays and Saturdays, and Angel’s Share, which says it takes no reservations.
Mostly walk-in: Double Chicken Please keeps over 70 per cent of its seats first come, first served. Its Resy bookings open six days ahead at midnight and carry a $2.50 per person fee that is not refunded. Attaboy holds a few tables on OpenTable and seats everyone else in order, in parties of six or fewer.
Both: Clemente Bar takes reservations through the night and encourages walk-ins. Overstory welcomes walk-ins of up to six when there is room, but every reservation comes with a food and drink minimum of $100 per person.
Booked: Martiny’s books through Resy, Sip & Guzzle has a reservations page and Schmuck takes bookings on Resy. Employees Only takes reservations for dinner only, on (212) 242-3021, and seats cocktail guests as walk-ins.
Which bar for which night
Here is where four of them are strongest, going only by what each publishes.
Sip & Guzzle, 29 Cornelia Street. No. 1 in North America for 2026, six minutes from us.
- Best for the most celebrated drinks in the city, in two rooms that stay open until 2:00 AM from Wednesday to Saturday.
- Skip if you need to know the price first; its menus price the food and spirits but not the cocktails.
Angel’s Share, 45 Grove Street. The revived original, three minutes from our door.
- Best for a walk-in drink from 5:00 PM, with no booking to fight for.
- Skip if it is Sunday or Monday; its site says it is closed both days.
Superbueno, 13 1st Avenue. The ranked bar that publishes the most.
- Best for knowing what you will spend: a full priced menu, $18.50 to $22.50, and hours to 2:00 AM every night.
- Skip if you are staying in the West Village; it is a 28 minute walk from us.
The Beer Garage, 118 Christopher Street. Ours, and not on the list.
- Best for a $15 cocktail with the game on or in the heated garden, with the whole list and its prices published.
- Skip if you came for an award-winning cocktail program; Employees Only is 348 feet away.

Every bar on this page serves guests 21 and over; Attaboy and Overstory say so in writing, and Attaboy asks for a physical government-issued ID. Double Chicken Please admits under-21 diners from 5:00 to 10:00 PM only. A round of $20 drinks adds up fast, so settle the ride home before the third.
Three of them are near our door
The West Village and the East Village each hold three of the eleven. Employees Only at 510 Hudson Street is 348 feet from us, Angel’s Share at 45 Grove Street is three minutes, and Sip & Guzzle at 29 Cornelia Street is six. For the rest of the neighborhood’s cocktail rooms, see our West Village cocktail bar guide.
That makes an easy night: a priced $15 drink with us, then a short walk to one of the ranked rooms, or the other way round. If the plan includes a game, our West Village sports bar page has what we show.

How we checked
We took the Manhattan bars from the North America’s 50 Best Bars 2026 list published by 50 Best, then read each bar’s own website on September 25, 2026, including its menu pages and menu files. A bar counts as publishing prices only if its own site shows a price next to its cocktails. Where a site said nothing, we wrote that instead of using review sites.
Walks were measured in Google Maps walking mode from 118 Christopher Street the same day. We did not visit any bar for this page, nobody paid to appear, and we are not on the list ourselves.
$15 signatures, every price published
The Beer Garage West Village, 118 Christopher Street, New York, NY 10014, three minutes from Christopher St-Stonewall on the 1 train. Open from 3:00 PM Monday to Thursday, 2:00 PM on Fridays, noon on Saturdays and 1:00 PM on Sundays.
Our Brooklyn room is at 148 5th Avenue in Park Slope, 718-576-3409, and its kitchen is 100 per cent gluten-free.
