A good date night bar in Park Slope does three things: it lets you book, it lets you hear each other, and it stays open as long as the evening does. Our own room at 148 5th Avenue is strong on one of those, weak on another, and depends on the schedule for the third, so we checked the schedule and our neighbors before telling you to come.

On September 29, 2026 we read the booking, hours and events pages of thirteen bars around Park Slope, and checked every New York basketball, hockey, NFL primetime, UFC and baseball playoff date through the end of November. What follows is what each place prints about itself, plus the nights we would actually recommend our own tables.

Short answer

To book a table for two, Bar Louise at 221 7th Avenue and 390 Social at 390 5th Avenue both take reservations on Resy, and Bar Louise also welcomes walk-ins, with its backyard open until 10:00 PM. For music, Barbès at 376 9th Street prints a calendar with sets most nights. For a later close, Union Hall on Union Street runs to 2:00 AM with firesides and a library.

Come to us for an early dinner on a quiet night, especially if one of you eats gluten-free: every plate at 148 5th Avenue is, and we take OpenTable bookings. The two nights left this fall with nothing local on our screens are Friday, November 6 and Tuesday, November 24.

When one of you can’t have gluten

A date is the worst time to interview a server about fryers. The Park Slope menu at 148 5th Avenue is printed under “100% gluten-free”, so both of you order from the whole list, oysters and escargot included. That is the Park Slope room only; our West Village kitchen is a standard one, and beer is brewed from barley unless the label says otherwise.

Among the neighbors on this page, 390 Social marks gluten-free dishes on its happy-hour menu and The Double Windsor labels one plate gluten-free; neither runs a gluten-free kitchen.

Date night bar in Park Slope: who takes a booking for two

Sorted by walk from our door. “Booking” is how each place describes reservations on its own site, in its own words where they are worth quoting. Closing times are the bar’s; kitchens often close earlier.

Reservation policies and closing times published by Park Slope bars on their own websites, read September 29, 2026, sorted by walk from 148 5th Avenue.

The Double Windsor, 210 Prospect Park West 39 minutes, 1.7 miles “We do not take reservations.” 2:00 AM

Of the fourteen rooms in the table, four take a booking for two with no conditions attached: us on OpenTable, Bar Louise and 390 Social on Resy, and Brookvin on its own site. High Dive takes one too, except on Friday and Saturday evenings. Three say plainly that they do not, which is useful in its own way: at Saint Eves, Skylark and The Double Windsor, arriving early is the reservation.

The nights our TVs are background

A sports bar changes character on a game night, and a Knicks or Rangers night on 5th Avenue is not the evening to hold hands over oysters. So we went through the league schedules from October 1 to November 30 and looked for evenings, 5:00 PM or later, with no New York basketball or hockey game, no NFL primetime game and no UFC card. We then checked baseball. The Rays knocked the Yankees out of the playoffs on October 7 and the Mets did not make them, so no New York team is left.

Evenings from October 17 to November 30, 2026 with no Knicks, Nets, Rangers, Islanders or Devils game, no NFL primetime game and no UFC card, from league schedules read September 28 and 29, 2026, and checked again October 17, 2026. Times Eastern.
Night What is not on The catch
Friday, November 6 Nothing on the list above, and baseball is over None; the NFL plays the night before and UFC the night after
Tuesday, November 24 Nothing on the list above None; Monday Night Football and the Islanders both play the night before

Outside those two nights, the quiet part of any weekday here is the start of it. Our happy hour runs from 3:00 to 7:00 PM Monday to Thursday, when the room is light from the skylights and the evening games have mostly not begun.

Music, bocce and something to do

Some dates need a reason to be somewhere. These are the ones the bars print themselves.

Barbès, 376 9th Street. A music room first and a bar second. Its September calendar lists sets on most nights, often at 8:00 and 10:00 PM, Slavic Soul Party “every Tuesday. Forever!” at 9:00 PM, and a Brazilian choro jam in the front room on Sunday afternoons. Its site says some shows are donation based.

Union Hall, 702 Union Street. Its own description is hard to beat for a date: “cozy firesides, a stately library, two indoor bocce courts, outdoor garden seating” and a downstairs room for music and comedy. The bocce is free and first come, first served; sold-out shows keep a stand-by line.

LoFi Bar, 341 2nd Street. Martinis are $12 all night on Wednesdays, and on Saturday afternoons, when 5th Avenue closes to cars, the Jim Greene Trio plays on the street from 2:30 to 5:00 PM.

Threes Brewing, 333 Douglass Street. Four minutes from us, a brewery by day and, in its own words, a brewpub, beer garden and music venue by night, with live music on its events list.

Our room for a date, honestly

Our OpenTable listing describes the Park Slope room as vintage-inspired, with skylights, bar seating and a cozy outdoor space, and that is fair. Our events listing also mentions long communal tables, which are better for a group than for two, so ask for the bar or the sidewalk counter.

The strengths are specific. You can book on OpenTable. From 3:00 to 7:00 PM Monday to Thursday, oysters and clams are $1.50 each, which makes a dozen $18 instead of $48. And the kitchen is gluten-free from the first plate to the last, which matters more on a date than on any other night.

The weaknesses are just as specific. We close at 10:00 PM Sunday to Thursday and 11:00 PM on Friday and Saturday, earlier than every bar on the table except Brookvin and 390 Social on some nights. The screens are part of the room, and on a game night they win. So our honest advice is an early dinner here and a nightcap somewhere on the list above, or one of the two quiet nights for the whole evening.

Which room for which date

Four rooms, four kinds of date, each described from its own site or, for us, our own listing.

Bar Louise, 221 7th Avenue. Nineteen minutes from us, and the most bookable date room on the list.

  • Best for a planned evening: Resy bookings with walk-ins welcome, a backyard until 10:00 PM, and a Monday happy hour that runs until 11:00 PM with $1.50 oysters. On Wednesdays its poster takes half off bottles of wine with food.
  • Skip if you want the backyard late; it closes with the kitchen at 10:00 PM every day.

Barbès, 376 9th Street. Twenty-two minutes from us, for a date with a soundtrack.

  • Best for live music most nights on its own monthly calendar, some shows donation based, with the bar open until 2:00 AM on weekdays and 3:00 AM at the weekend.
  • Skip if you need to talk the whole time, or want a booked table; its site does not mention table reservations.

Brookvin, 381 7th Avenue. Twenty-eight minutes from us, the wine bar of the group.

  • Best for wine and small plates with a booking: “Reserve a Table” on its site, a garden out back, and a happy hour that runs all day on Mondays.
  • Skip if you plan to linger on the patio: bookings there are for four or fewer and 90 minutes, though its site says you can stay longer if nobody is waiting.

The Beer Garage, 148 5th Avenue. Our own room, entrance on Douglass Street.

  • Best for an early dinner when one of you eats gluten-free, $1.50 oysters from 3:00 to 7:00 PM Monday to Thursday, and a table you can book on OpenTable.
  • Skip if there is a New York game on, or you want the evening to run past 10:00 PM on a weeknight.

A date is 21 and over here

Every room on this page serves alcohol, so both of you need ID showing 21 or over to drink. Plan the ride home before the second round, and if one of you is not drinking, Bar Louise’s happy hour prices mocktails at $10 and LoFi offers a zero-proof version of one of its cocktails.

Before you book: five warnings

Several good rooms do not book at all. Saint Eves, Skylark and The Double Windsor say so on their own sites, and Union Hall books groups, not tables for two. Arrive early on Friday and Saturday.

Gardens close before bars do. Bar Louise’s backyard closes at 10:00 PM with its kitchen, Brookvin limits patio bookings to 90 minutes, and Skylark’s outdoor seating stops at midnight.

Patio deposits are not refundable everywhere. Gowanus Gardens asks a deposit for patio bookings, paid by Zelle, and its site says the deposit is kept if you cancel.

Baseball still has October. No New York team is left in the playoffs after the Yankees went out on October 7, and the World Series runs from Friday, October 23 to Saturday, October 31 at the latest, at 8:00 PM ET on FOX. Both of our quiet nights come after it.

We close early. If the plan is dinner at 9:00 PM on a Tuesday, we are the wrong room; we close at 10:00 PM.

How we checked

How we checked

On September 29, 2026 we read the reservations, hours, events and FAQ pages of each bar on this page, and quote each booking policy as it is printed. For the quiet nights we used the NBA’s schedule feed, the NHL’s team schedules, NFL.com’s weekly schedules, UFC.com event pages and Major League Baseball’s postseason schedule, all converted to Eastern time. On October 17, 2026 we checked the two remaining nights again against the NBA’s schedule feed, the NHL’s team schedules and UFC.com.

Walks were measured in Google Maps walking mode from 148 5th Avenue. For our own room we used our OpenTable listing, our events listing and the hours on our homepage. No venue paid to appear.

A table for two, every plate gluten-free

The Beer Garage Park Slope, 148 5th Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11217, entrance on Douglass Street. Open from 3:00 PM Monday to Thursday, 2:00 PM Friday and 1:00 PM at the weekend; closing at 10:00 PM, 11:00 PM on Friday and Saturday.

Our Manhattan room is at 118 Christopher Street in the West Village, 646-490-4301, with a heated garden out back; its kitchen is standard, not gluten-free.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good date night bar in Park Slope?

For a booked table, Bar Louise at 221 7th Avenue and 390 Social at 390 5th Avenue both take Resy reservations. For live music, Barbès at 376 9th Street prints sets most nights. For a gluten-free dinner, The Beer Garage at 148 5th Avenue serves an entirely gluten-free menu and takes OpenTable bookings. All were read on September 29, 2026.

Which Park Slope bars take reservations for two?

By their own sites: The Beer Garage on OpenTable, Bar Louise and 390 Social on Resy, and Brookvin through the booking link on its site. High Dive takes them any time Sunday to Thursday but not after 5:00 PM on Friday and Saturday. Saint Eves, Skylark and The Double Windsor say they do not take reservations.

Is a sports bar a good place for a date in Park Slope?

On the right night. The Beer Garage checked the schedules and found two evenings this fall with no New York basketball or hockey game, no NFL primetime game, no UFC card and no baseball: Friday, November 6 and Tuesday, November 24. On weekdays, its happy hour from 3:00 to 7:00 PM also comes before most evening games.

Where can we hear live music on a date in Park Slope?

Barbès at 376 9th Street lists sets most nights on its monthly calendar, some donation based. Union Hall at 702 Union Street has a downstairs room for music and comedy. LoFi Bar hosts a jazz trio on the 5th Avenue open street on Saturday afternoons, and Threes Brewing lists live music.

Is there a gluten-free restaurant bar for a date in Park Slope?

The Beer Garage at 148 5th Avenue prints its Park Slope menu under “100% gluten-free”, so both people order from the whole list. It takes OpenTable reservations and closes at 10:00 PM Sunday to Thursday and 11:00 PM on Friday and Saturday. The West Village location is not gluten-free.

Which Park Slope date spots stay open late?

By their own hours, High Dive stays open until 4:00 AM, Union Hall until 2:00 AM or 4:00 AM at the weekend, Barbès until 2:00 AM or 3:00 AM, and Skylark and The Double Windsor until 2:00 AM. The Beer Garage closes at 10:00 PM or 11:00 PM.

The verdict

A date night bar in Park Slope is easiest to plan at Bar Louise or 390 Social, where a booking takes a minute, and most memorable at Barbès or Union Hall, where the room gives you something to do. Brookvin is the choice for wine and a garden, if you can get the patio.

We are the right first stop rather than the whole night: an early dinner, a dozen oysters at happy hour prices, and a kitchen where nobody has to ask what is safe. Pick one of the quiet nights and we are a good date spot from start to finish.
