Picking a Thanksgiving Eve bar in Park Slope comes down to two questions: how late you want to stay out, and whether there is a game you need to see. The night before Thanksgiving is when people who grew up here come back and meet old friends, so the rooms that matter are the ones still open when the reunion is just getting going.

So we went to the source. We read each bar’s own website, wrote down its Wednesday hours and looked for anything about November 25. Below are the closing times from 10:00 PM to 4:00 AM, the games on that night, the one bar that has planned for it, and what we are doing at 148 5th Avenue, which is less than you might hope.

Thanksgiving Eve bar in Park Slope: Wednesday closing times, nearest first

These are the Wednesday hours each bar prints on its own website, read on October 23, 2026. A holiday eve can change them, and only The Dram Shop had posted anything for November 25 when we looked. Walks are from our door at 148 5th Avenue, measured in Google Maps walking mode.

Read it as a ladder. Three rooms close at 10:00 PM, including ours, and one at 11:00 PM. Six print midnight and two print 1:00 AM. Six stay open until 2:00 AM, and three go on to 4:00 AM, two of them within eight minutes of our door. The Owl Farm prints only “late”.

What is on TV on Thanksgiving Eve

All three local hockey teams and both basketball teams play on Wednesday, November 25, 2026, and the NFL has a night game too. Times are from each league’s or team’s own schedule, read October 23, 2026, and the channels are the ones those schedules list.

Two things follow. The three hockey games start at the same minute, so a bar with one main screen has to choose; ask which one it will show before you settle in. And the football game is a streaming game: a room that only carries cable channels may not have it at all.

The one bar with a Thanksgiving Eve plan

The Dram Shop, 339 9th Street, is the only bar of the 30 that names the night. Its calendar for Wednesday, November 25 runs from an 11:00 AM lunch and a happy hour until 6:00 PM, through Champions League soccer in the afternoon and a 6:00 PM pool league, to the Rangers at Buffalo at 7:00 PM and a line that reads “NFL Thanksgiving Eve Showcase: Green Bay Packers at Los Angeles Rams” at 8:00 PM.

That fits the room. The bar’s FAQ lists the Green Bay Packers first among its home teams, and its calendar header promises 8 TVs and a big-screen projector. The same header also says “We do not show any games on streaming services”, and the Packers’ own schedule puts this game on Netflix. Only one of those can hold on the night, so call (718) 788-1444 and ask before you walk over.

On hours, The Dram Shop prints 11:00 AM to midnight from Monday to Thursday, with the kitchen closing at 11:30 PM, and tells readers to check its Google Business page for special holiday hours. Its FAQ also answers “Yes” to “Are you open on Thanksgiving?”, which helps if your group’s plans spill into Thursday. It is 19 minutes from us on foot.

Staying out past midnight

If the night runs long, only nine of the bars we read print a Wednesday close after 1:00 AM. Here they are, grouped by how late.

Open until 4:00 AM

High Dive, 243 5th Avenue, seven minutes from us, prints 3:00 PM to 4:00 AM Monday to Friday and a happy hour from 3:00 to 8:00 PM on weekdays. Fourth Avenue Pub, 76 4th Avenue, eight minutes away, opens at 4:00 PM on Wednesdays and also prints 4:00 AM. Freddy’s, 627 5th Avenue, is further south at 29 minutes, and says it is open daily from noon to 4:00 AM.

Open until 2:00 AM

• Uncle Barry’s, 58 5th Avenue, five minutes away: 3:00 PM to 2:00 AM, with its weekly trivia at 8:00 PM on Wednesdays, so a holiday-eve crowd may meet a quiz in progress.
• Union Hall, 702 Union Street, five minutes away: the bar runs 4:00 PM to 2:00 AM and the kitchen until 11:00 PM on Wednesdays. Its online calendar showed shows only through October 30 when we read it.
• McMahon’s Public House, 39 5th Avenue, seven minutes away: 11:00 AM to 2:00 AM every day, with a back garden and an upstairs lounge it books for private events.
• Gowanus Gardens, 256 4th Avenue, eight minutes away: 3:00 PM to 2:00 AM, a kitchen open until 1:00 AM, and a 21-and-over rule after 8:00 PM.
• Skylark, 477 5th Avenue, 20 minutes away: 2:00 PM to 2:00 AM every night, last call at 1:30 AM.
• Rullo’s, 560 5th Avenue, 25 minutes away: 5:00 PM to 2:00 AM, and its events page lists Smarty Pints trivia every Wednesday at 8:00 PM with a $50 bar gift certificate for the winners.

The Owl Farm, 297 9th Street, prints “Daily: 2pm – Late” and no closing time, so we left it out of these lists.

Our Thanksgiving Eve, honestly

The Beer Garage Park Slope, 148 5th Avenue, entrance on Douglass Street, is open Monday to Thursday from 3:00 to 10:00 PM, per our website footer and our OpenTable listing. As of October 23, 2026 we have not posted different hours or an event for Thanksgiving Eve, so plan on a regular Wednesday: doors at 3:00 PM, happy hour until 7:00 PM with $1.50 oysters and clams and $7 draft beers, and a 10:00 PM close.

That makes us the first stop, not the last. Come at 5:00 PM, eat from a kitchen that is gluten-free from top to bottom, watch the 7:00 PM puck drops with three hours to spare, and then walk five minutes to Uncle Barry’s or Union Hall, or seven to McMahon’s, when we close. If our plans for the night change, we will update this page.

Bringing the whole crowd

Old friends home for the holiday usually means a big table, and most bars print nothing about booking one on a Wednesday. These are the ones that do say something on their own sites:

• Whisk and Whiskey, 259 4th Avenue: “For groups of 6+, reserve at least 48 hours in advance.” It is open 3:00 to 11:00 PM on Wednesdays, with the kitchen closing at 10:00 PM, and closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
• Union Hall, 702 Union Street: a group reservations page and a private event booking link.
• McMahon’s Public House, 39 5th Avenue: says it caters for parties of all sizes, from space at the bar or in the back garden to watch a game, to a private event in the upstairs lounge, with an inquiry form that lists “Holiday” as an event type.
• The Dram Shop, 339 9th Street: an event packet and a private event request form.
• The Beer Garage Park Slope: tables on OpenTable, including a happy hour booking for 1 to 10 people, or call 718-576-3409.

2. Ask which game is on. Three hockey games start at 7:00 PM, and the Packers game streams on Netflix.
3. Book if you are six or more. Whisk and Whiskey asks for 48 hours’ notice, and other rooms fill early on a holiday eve.
4. Mind the age rules. Gowanus Gardens is 21 and over after 8:00 PM; bring ID everywhere.
5. Plan the route home. Several of the late rooms sit on 4th and 5th Avenues near the Atlantic Avenue-Barclays Center station.

How we checked

On October 23, 2026 we read the websites of 30 bars in Park Slope and Gowanus: each home page, and the events, calendar, hours or FAQ page where one exists. We recorded the Wednesday hours exactly as printed and searched every page for Thanksgiving, November 25 and holiday hours.

Game times come from the NHL’s schedule data for the Rangers, Islanders and Devils, the NBA’s schedule data and the Green Bay Packers’ own schedule page, all read the same day. Our own hours are from our website footer and our OpenTable listing. Walks were measured in Google Maps walking mode from 148 5th Avenue in September and October 2026 for our earlier Park Slope guides.

Nine of the 30 sites are not in the table. Mockingbird, 213 7th Avenue, prints evening hours only from Thursday to Sunday. Brookvin, 381 7th Avenue, prints 4:00 to 10:30 PM on Wednesdays but is 28 minutes away. Saint Eves is further than any bar in the table, and we have not measured the walk to Union Grounds. Commonwealth, The Armory, The Double Windsor and Barbès print no bar hours we could use, and the Black Horse site refused our request.

Are the Rangers or Knicks playing on Thanksgiving Eve?

Yes. The Rangers are at Buffalo at 7:00 PM on MSG 2, the Islanders host St. Louis at 7:00 PM on MSG Sportsnet, the Devils are at Columbus at 7:00 PM on MSG Sportsnet 2, the Knicks host Cleveland at 7:30 PM on MSG, and the Nets are at Milwaukee at 8:00 PM on YES Network.

Uncle Barry’s and Rullo’s both print a weekly Wednesday trivia night at 8:00 PM. Neither says whether it runs on the night before Thanksgiving, so ask.

Pick The Dram Shop if the night is about the Packers or the Rangers, once you have confirmed the streaming question.
