Game Day · West Village · Updated October 2026
The West Village has no hockey bar. Here is where to go anyway.
Where to watch NHL hockey in the West Village is a harder question than it sounds: not one Village bar promises the NHL on its own website this season. Here is what each room does say, how far it is from Christopher Street on foot, and which Rangers nights need a plan.
- 0 Village bars name the NHL for 2026-27 online
- Nearest hockey bar: 23 minutes on foot
- 2 Village bars on the Rangers’ Tap Takeover list
- 1 train: 5 stops to Madison Square Garden
- Our West Village kitchen is not gluten-free
We run a bar on Christopher Street, so we went looking for our hockey-watching neighbors. We read more than twenty West Village and Greenwich Village bar websites for the words hockey, NHL or a team name. The honest result: nobody in the Village says, in writing, that the NHL will be on this season. Plenty of rooms show “all the major sporting events”, and two are on the Rangers’ own bar list. None calls itself a hockey bar.
That changes how you plan a game night here. This guide to where to watch NHL hockey in the West Village sorts the rooms by what they actually publish, gives the walk from 118 Christopher Street to each one, and points you to the nearest bars that do build their nights around hockey. For the rest of the borough, see where to watch NHL hockey in Manhattan.
No bar in the West Village says on its own website that it will show NHL games in 2026-27. The closest bar that calls itself a hockey bar is The Canuck in Chelsea, 23 minutes on foot from Christopher Street. In the Village, 3 Sheets on West 3rd Street has 24 screens and is on the Rangers’ Tap Takeover list, and The Beer Garage at 118 Christopher Street is open until 11:00 PM ET on weeknights.
The Beer Garage on Christopher Street cooks from a regular menu, and none of its dishes carries a gluten-free label. The gluten-free Beer Garage is the other one, in Park Slope, Brooklyn, at 148 5th Avenue, where the whole kitchen is 100 per cent gluten-free. Most beer is made from barley at both. We have not looked into the kitchens of the other Village bars on this page; if gluten matters for medical reasons, ask each one directly, and treat nothing here as medical advice.
What Village bars say about showing games
The table sorts West Village and Greenwich Village rooms by the walk from our door, measured in Google Maps. The third column is the closest each bar’s own website comes to promising hockey.
| Bar | Walk from 118 Christopher St | What its own site says | Published hours |
|---|---|---|---|
| The Beer Garage, 118 Christopher St | You are here | “A full sports line-up”; no team named | Website: Mon to Thu 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM; Fri 2:00 PM to midnight; Sat noon to midnight; Sun 1:00 PM to 11:00 PM |
| Kettle of Fish, 59 Christopher St | 4 minutes | A Green Bay Packers bar; no hockey | Noon to 4:00 AM daily |
| Down the Hatch, 179 W 4th St | 6 minutes | “Specials every day, sports”; no hockey | Mon to Fri 2:00 PM to 4:00 AM; Sat and Sun noon to 4:00 AM |
| Wogies, 39 Greenwich Ave | 8 minutes | A Philadelphia Flyers playoff post from spring 2026; nothing for this season | Sun to Wed 11:30 AM to midnight; Thu to 1:00 AM; Fri and Sat to 2:00 AM |
| Houston Hall, 222 W Houston St | 9 minutes | Names “NHL playoffs” among its events; four 12-foot screens | Closed Mon; Tue 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM; Wed and Thu to midnight; Fri to 1:00 AM; Sat 11:30 AM to 2:00 AM; Sun noon to 8:00 PM |
| 3 Sheets, 134 W 3rd St | 9 minutes | “24 big screens show all the major sporting events”; on the Rangers’ Tap Takeover list | Mon to Fri 2:00 PM to close; Sat and Sun noon to close |
| Off The Wagon, 109 MacDougal St | 10 minutes | 17 TVs and a 100-inch screen for “just about any sporting event both local and out of market” | Noon to 4:00 AM daily |
| Rocco’s Sports and Recreation, 1 W 3rd St | 17 minutes | Game day table bookings, no teams named; on the Rangers’ Tap Takeover list | Not published on its home page |
Read the middle column carefully. “All the major sporting events” is a promise about big nights, and a Tuesday Rangers game in October may not count. At every bar in this table, call ahead and ask for the game by channel; the section on October nights below says which one.
The two Village bars on the Rangers’ list
The Rangers keep a list of Tap Takeover bars, presented by Michelob Ultra, for fans who cannot get to the Garden. Two of its 13 Manhattan entries are in the Village, both on West 3rd Street: 3 Sheets at number 134, nine minutes from us, and Rocco’s Sports and Recreation at number 1, seventeen minutes away. Neither mentions the Rangers on its own website. The team’s page still talks about the Centennial season, which was 2025-26, so the list may be a year old. Call before you walk over.
3 Sheets, 134 West 3rd Street. The Village room with the most screens it will put a number on, and the only one both on the team’s list and nine minutes from Christopher Street.
- Best for a Rangers game with a crowd, when our room feels too small.
- Skip if you need to know the closing time in advance; its site says only “close”.
The nearest bars that call themselves hockey bars
If you want a room where hockey is the point, leave the Village. Two bars within a subway ride or a long walk say so on their own sites.
| Bar | Neighborhood | Walk | What its own site says | Published hours |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| The Canuck, 202 9th Ave | Chelsea | 23 minutes, 1.0 mile | “NYC’s Premier Canadian Hockey & Sports Bar” | Mon to Fri 4:00 PM to 2:00 AM; Sat noon to 4:00 AM; Sun noon to 2:00 AM |
| Kelly’s Sports Bar, 12 Avenue A | East Village | 32 minutes, 1.4 miles | Every Sabres game, plus the Rangers, Islanders, Devils “and the full NHL slate” | Daily from noon; closing not published |
For a Rangers crowd near the arena itself, Mustang Harry’s on 7th Avenue says it shows every major NHL game; it is covered with the Midtown bars in our Manhattan hockey guide.
Rangers nights from the Village, October 2026
Village hours vary more than the schedule does, so this table puts the two side by side. Start times and channels come from the NHL’s schedule data, read on October 6, 2026 and converted from UTC to Eastern Time; the last column flags what changes on the Village side that night.
| Date | Opponent | Puck drop | Channel | Village note |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fri, Oct 9 | at Capitals | 7:00 PM | MSG Network | Busy Friday in the Village; arrive early |
| Sun, Oct 11 | Canucks, at home | 6:00 PM | MSG Network | Canucks fans: The Canuck in Chelsea. Houston Hall closes at 8:00 PM |
| Tue, Oct 13 | Lightning, at home | 7:15 PM | MSG Network | Houston Hall closes at 10:00 PM |
| Thu, Oct 15 | at Devils | 7:00 PM | MSG Network | Rangers against Devils; Kelly’s names both teams |
| Sat, Oct 17 | at Blue Jackets | 7:00 PM | MSG Network | Saturday; most Village rooms open late |
| Mon, Oct 19 | Ducks, at home | 7:00 PM | MSG Network | Houston Hall is closed on Mondays |
| Thu, Oct 22 | at Maple Leafs | 7:00 PM | MSG Network | Leafs fans will be at The Canuck |
| Sat, Oct 24 | at Senators | 7:00 PM | MSG Network | Senators fans, same answer |
| Mon, Oct 26 | Kings, at home | 7:00 PM | MSG Network | Houston Hall is closed on Mondays |
| Sun, Nov 1 | Oilers, at home | 6:00 PM | MSG Network | Oilers fans: The Canuck in Chelsea. Houston Hall closes at 8:00 PM |
| Tue, Nov 3 | Blues, at home | 7:00 PM | MSG Network | Houston Hall closes at 10:00 PM |
All eleven of these games are on MSG Network, the Rangers’ local channel, and none is national-only. When you call a Village bar, “Is MSG Network on tonight?” is a better question than “Do you show hockey?”
Hockey at our Christopher Street room
We are not a hockey bar either. Our website promises “a full sports line-up” and does not name the NHL, we have never published a screen count, and we are on no team’s list. What we can promise is the clock: every Rangers game in October starts at least three hours before our website’s closing time that night.
The Beer Garage West Village, 118 Christopher Street. Website hours: Monday to Thursday 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM ET, Friday 2:00 PM to midnight, Saturday noon to midnight, Sunday 1:00 PM to 11:00 PM. Our Google listing shows different hours; call before an early start. A standard kitchen, 37 beer and cider lines and a heated backyard garden.
- Best for a Rangers game with dinner and without a crowd, or a drink before you ride uptown to the Garden.
- Also good for mixed groups: the heated garden out back is there for anyone not watching.
- Skip if you want a room that lives and dies with the Rangers; try 3 Sheets, or Mustang Harry’s near the Garden.
- Possible downside a small room and no booking link. For more than four people, call 646-490-4301 and ask for MSG Network.

From the West Village to the Garden
If you have tickets, the Village is an easy base. Christopher St-Stonewall is three minutes from our door on foot, and the uptown 1 train stops at 14th, 18th, 23rd and 28th Streets before 34 St-Penn Station, directly under Madison Square Garden. From West 4th Street, seven minutes away, the A, C and E also run to 34th Street-Penn Station.
You must be 21 or older, with valid ID, to be served at any bar on this page. A game that goes to overtime can end late on a school night, so check the last train home before the third period.
Which bar for your team?
Two questions, sixteen answers. For most teams, the honest answer is a short walk or a short ride out of the Village.
1. Who are you cheering for?
2. What decides the bar?
The Beer Garage, 118 Christopher Street. No walk at all if you are already here. We do not claim the Rangers, so call 646-490-4301 and ask for MSG Network.
Off The Wagon, 109 MacDougal Street, ten minutes away and open until 4:00 AM every day, with 17 TVs and a 100-inch screen. Ask for the Rangers on MSG Network.
3 Sheets, 134 West 3rd Street. Twenty-four screens, nine minutes away, and on the Rangers’ Tap Takeover list.
The Beer Garage Park Slope, 148 5th Avenue, Brooklyn. Our fully gluten-free kitchen is across the river. Call 718-576-3409 and ask for the Rangers game.
Call before you walk. No Village bar names the Islanders or the Devils on its site. Off The Wagon, ten minutes away, says it shows out-of-market games too.
Off The Wagon, 109 MacDougal Street, open until 4:00 AM daily; ask for your game. For a bar whose own site names both the Islanders and the Devils, Kelly’s Sports Bar on Avenue A is a 32-minute walk.
Off The Wagon, 109 MacDougal Street. A 100-inch screen plus 17 TVs; ask for the Islanders or Devils broadcast when you call.
The Beer Garage Park Slope, 148 5th Avenue, Brooklyn. A 100 per cent gluten-free kitchen. We do not claim a team, so ask for your game at 718-576-3409.
The Canuck, 202 9th Avenue, Chelsea. Twenty-three minutes on foot, and the nearest bar that calls itself a hockey bar.
The Canuck, open until 2:00 AM on weeknights and 4:00 AM on Saturdays, per its own site.
The Canuck for the crowd; it does not publish a screen count. For sheer size, Houston Hall has four 12-foot screens, but it is closed on Mondays and closes at 8:00 PM on Sundays.
The Beer Garage Park Slope, 148 5th Avenue, Brooklyn. Our gluten-free kitchen. We have not checked The Canuck’s kitchen.
Wogies, 39 Greenwich Avenue, eight minutes away. Its only hockey post is from the Flyers’ spring 2026 playoff run, so call and ask.
Off The Wagon, 109 MacDougal Street, open until 4:00 AM daily, and its site mentions out-of-market games.
Houston Hall, 222 West Houston Street. Four 12-foot screens, nine minutes away; open Tuesday to Sunday only.
The Beer Garage Park Slope, 148 5th Avenue, Brooklyn. The only gluten-free kitchen on this page, and ours.
Use the tables above: no Village bar names the NHL for 2026-27; 3 Sheets and Rocco’s are on the Rangers’ Tap Takeover list; The Canuck in Chelsea and Kelly’s in the East Village say they show hockey.
How we checked
On September 22, 2026 we read the websites of more than twenty West Village and Greenwich Village bars for hockey, the NHL or any team name, and recorded only what each site says. Several Village bar domains now show unrelated spam or are for sale; those bars are left out rather than guessed at. Team claims come from the Rangers’ Tap Takeover page, read the same day.
Walks were measured in Google Maps walking mode from 118 Christopher Street on September 16 and 22, 2026. Game times and channels come from the NHL’s schedule data, read on October 6, 2026 and converted from UTC to Eastern Time. We visited no other bar for this page, and none of them is ranked.
On Christopher Street for the game
The Beer Garage West Village, 118 Christopher Street, New York, NY 10014, three minutes on foot from Christopher St-Stonewall on the 1 train and from the Christopher Street PATH.
For a gluten-free kitchen with the game on, our Park Slope room: 718-576-3409.
Frequently asked questions

Where do Rangers fans watch in the West Village?
3 Sheets at 134 West 3rd Street has 24 screens and is on the Rangers’ Tap Takeover list, nine minutes from Christopher Street on foot. Off The Wagon on MacDougal Street is open until 4:00 AM, and The Beer Garage at 118 Christopher Street is open until 11:00 PM ET on weeknights per its website. Most Rangers games are on MSG Network, so ask for that channel.
What is the closest hockey bar to the West Village?
The Canuck at 202 9th Avenue in Chelsea, which calls itself NYC’s premier Canadian hockey and sports bar. It is a 23-minute walk, 1.0 mile, from 118 Christopher Street. Kelly’s Sports Bar at 12 Avenue A in the East Village, 32 minutes on foot, says it shows the full NHL slate.

Can I watch hockey at The Beer Garage in the West Village?
Yes, if you call ahead: our website promises a full sports line-up without naming the NHL, and every Rangers game from October 7 to November 3 starts at least three hours before our posted closing time. The room is small and the kitchen is standard; the gluten-free kitchen is in Park Slope.
The verdict
To watch NHL hockey in the West Village, accept that you are choosing a sports bar, not a hockey bar. For a Rangers crowd, 3 Sheets on West 3rd Street is the best Village bet; for a late finish, Off The Wagon; for a quiet game with dinner, our room on Christopher Street. Call first wherever you go and ask for MSG Network.
If hockey is the whole night, walk 23 minutes to The Canuck in Chelsea, or ride five stops to the Garden and the bars around it.
