Ten bars near NYU that show the game, every one within an eleven-minute walk of the Washington Square Arch.
Looking for a sports bar near NYU? We timed the walk from the Arch to ten bars that put sports on their own websites, then copied what each one prints about its screens, its hours and its happy hour, all read on October 14, 2026. Ours is the eleventh name on the list, eleven minutes west on Christopher Street.
- Ten bars, 3 to 11 minutes from the Arch
- Websites read October 14, 2026
- Giants, Jets, Knicks and Rangers lists checked
- Opening times for 1:00 PM kickoffs
- Heated backyard garden at 118 Christopher Street
The blocks around Washington Square are full of bars, and plenty of them have a television over the register. That does not make them a place to watch a game. For this page a bar had to say, on its own website, that sports are part of what it does, or appear on a team’s official list of bars. Ten passed that test inside an eleven-minute walk of the Arch.
Four of the ten have a West 3rd Street address, and two more, Off the Wagon and Wicked Willy’s, are a block away on MacDougal and Bleecker, which makes the stretch between Sixth Avenue and Broadway the closest thing NYU has to a sports row. Down the Hatch is just over Sixth Avenue on West 4th Street, and the other three are on Waverly Place, University Place and the Bowery. We start every walk at the Arch because it is the one spot every student, parent and visitor can find, and we finish with our own room at 118 Christopher Street, which is further away than most and says so.
The nearest sports bars to NYU, by walk from the Washington Square Arch, are The Half Pint (3 minutes), Amity Hall Downtown and Josie Woods Pub (4), 3 Sheets and Off the Wagon (5), Down the Hatch and Wicked Willy’s (6), Rocco’s Sports & Rec and Reservoir (7) and Phebe’s Tavern (11).
For the most screens, 3 Sheets prints 24 and Off the Wagon prints 17 TVs plus a 100-inch screen. Giants fans have three bars from the team’s own network on West 3rd Street and MacDougal Street. The Beer Garage West Village is the quieter option, eleven minutes west, with a heated garden and an 11:00 PM close on most nights.
Of the pages we read for this guide, one dish carries a gluten-free label: the blue corn empanada bites on Off the Wagon’s menu. Our kitchen at 118 Christopher Street is a regular one. If a fully gluten-free kitchen is the deciding factor, our other bar is the one to know: The Beer Garage in Park Slope, 148 5th Avenue, Brooklyn, where every plate is gluten-free. Our page on the gluten-free sports bar in NYC explains how that kitchen works.
Near the Arch, ask the server about every dish rather than assuming.

The cluster is tight. The Half Pint and Amity Hall Downtown are a few doors apart at 76 and 80 West 3rd Street, 3 Sheets is further west at number 134, Off the Wagon is around the corner on MacDougal, and Rocco’s sits at the Broadway end of the same street. If the first room is full, another is rarely more than a couple of minutes away.
Who is open for your kickoff
Most games near campus fall into three slots: Saturday afternoon, the 1:00 PM Sunday window of the NFL, and a weeknight start around 7:00 PM. The table answers the first two; on weeknights most of these rooms open between noon and 3:00 PM.
| Bar | Opens Saturday | Opens Sunday | Latest close |
|---|---|---|---|
| Amity Hall Downtown | 11:00 AM | 11:00 AM | 3:00 AM Friday and Saturday |
| Rocco’s Sports & Rec | 11:00 AM | 11:00 AM | 2:00 AM Wednesday to Saturday |
| The Half Pint | 11:00 AM | 11:00 AM | 2:00 AM Friday and Saturday |
| Wicked Willy’s | 11:00 AM | 11:00 AM | 4:00 AM every night |
| Phebe’s Tavern & Grill | 11:00 AM | 11:00 AM | 4:00 AM Friday and Saturday |
| Reservoir | 11:00 AM | 11:00 AM | Not printed |
| 3 Sheets | Noon | Noon | 4:00 AM Friday and Saturday |
| Off the Wagon | Noon | Noon | 4:00 AM every night |
| Down the Hatch | Noon | Noon | 4:00 AM every night |
| The Beer Garage West Village | Noon | 1:00 PM | Midnight Friday and Saturday |
| Josie Woods Pub | 3:00 PM | 2:00 PM | 4:00 AM Thursday to Saturday |
Two rows deserve a second look. Josie Woods opens at 2:00 PM on Sundays, so a 1:00 PM kickoff is an hour old by the time its door opens, and on Saturdays it waits until 3:00 PM. And our own Sunday opening is 1:00 PM on the dot, which is fine for the late window and tight for the early one: come at one and the first drive is already under way.
At the other end of the night, three bars print a 4:00 AM close every night of the week: Off the Wagon, Down the Hatch and Wicked Willy’s. 3 Sheets and Phebe’s get there on Fridays and Saturdays, and Josie Woods from Thursday to Saturday. Of the rooms that print a closing time, we are the earliest to shut.
Which bar for your team
Teams keep their own lists of bars, and four of those lists reach the streets around the Arch. We read each one on October 14, 2026.
- New York Giants. The Giants Bar Network includes three bars on this page: Three Sheets Saloon at 134 West 3rd Street, Off The Wagon at 109 MacDougal Street and Down The Hatch at 179 West 4th Street. The team’s 2026 watch-party schedule puts its Week 7 party, Giants at Texans on Sunday, October 25, at 3 Sheets for a 1:00 PM kickoff. Our Giants bar guide for Brooklyn covers the rest of the network.
- New York Jets. The Jets Bar Network lists Amity Hall Downtown at 80 West 3rd Street and Half Pint at 76 West 3rd Street, a few doors apart. It also lists Bleecker Street Bar at 648 Broadway, nine minutes from the Arch, which does not mention sports on its own website. More in our Jets bar guide.
- New York Knicks. The Knicks’ Tap Takeovers list, presented by Michelob ULTRA, names Amity Hall Downtown and Rocco’s Sports & Recreation at 1 West 3rd Street among its Manhattan bars.
- New York Rangers. The Rangers’ Tap Takeover page lists Rocco’s and 3 Sheets. The same page still invites fans to enjoy “the Centennial season”, which points to 2025-26, the team’s hundredth season, so treat the list as possibly last season’s until the team updates it. Our page on where to watch NHL hockey in the West Village has the October schedule.
- Cincinnati Bengals. Phebe’s, at the corner of East 4th Street and the Bowery, runs a page calling itself “the only verified Bengals bar in town” and says it takes no reservations on game days.
If your team is not here, the rooms with the most screens are the safest bet for a channel nobody else is asking for. Call first and ask for the game by name.
Screens: who gives a number
Only three of the ten bars put a number on their screens, and those numbers come straight from their own pages:
- 3 Sheets: 24 big screens, plus an upstairs room called the Lido Deck with a skylight and a fireplace.
- Off the Wagon: 17 TVs and a 100-inch screen across two floors, showing what its site calls local and out-of-market sport.
- Josie Woods Pub: 14 HD TVs, plus a pool and darts area.
Rocco’s promises “premier stadium-style viewing” without a count. Amity Hall Downtown, Down the Hatch, Reservoir, The Half Pint, Wicked Willy’s and Phebe’s print no number either. Neither do we: The Beer Garage has never published a screen count, so we will not invent one here.
Happy hours printed near campus
Six of the eleven websites print a happy hour with times, and a seventh prints a weekday special. Here they are, as printed:
- Off the Wagon: Monday to Friday, noon to 7:00 PM, $2 off the entire bar.
- Down the Hatch: Monday to Friday, 2:00 to 7:00 PM, half off all drinks.
- 3 Sheets: Monday to Friday until 7:00 PM, a half-priced bar with exclusions.
- Amity Hall Downtown: select cocktails and mixed drinks at $6 every weekday until 7:00 PM.
- Josie Woods Pub: Monday to Friday, 3:00 to 7:00 PM, with $5 Bud Light pints, $6 Yuengling and rotating drafts, $6 well drinks and $12 buffalo wings.
- Phebe’s: Monday to Friday, 4:00 to 8:00 PM, with $5 bottled beers, $6 drafts, $8 glasses of pinot grigio, pinot noir or rosé and $10 select cocktails.
- Rocco’s: a weekday special it calls Winning Time, Monday to Friday 4:00 to 6:00 PM; the page we read did not list the items.
The Half Pint’s site has a happy hour section, but its times and prices were not in text we could read. Our own ordering menu shows a happy hour drinks list at $8 without the hours, so phone 646-490-4301 if that matters to you. For a 7:00 PM game, note that most of these deals stop at 7:00 PM, just as play starts; Phebe’s runs an hour longer.
Eleven minutes west: our room, honestly
The Beer Garage West Village is at 118 Christopher Street, eleven minutes and half a mile from the Arch along West Washington Place. It is a sports bar with the game on in the front room and a heated backyard garden behind it, and our ordering menu lists 37 beer and cider lines, a beer flight and three zero-proof drinks at $10.
As a sports bar near NYU, it is not the closest room to campus and it is not the loudest. We open at 3:00 PM from Monday to Thursday, 2:00 PM on Fridays, noon on Saturdays and 1:00 PM on Sundays, and we close at 11:00 PM, or midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. No team keeps us on its list. What we offer instead is a room where you can hear the person next to you, a garden for the walk-off, and the 1 train three minutes from the door at Christopher St-Stonewall. Call 646-490-4301 and ask which game is on before you walk over; our guide to the bars on Christopher Street covers our neighbors.
Four picks for four kinds of game
Each of these is good at one thing, judged on what its own website promises.
3 Sheets, 134 West 3rd Street. Five minutes from the Arch.
- Best for a big Sunday: 24 screens, noon opening and the Giants’ official watch party on October 25.
- Skip if you want to book online; its site sends reservations to Instagram messages.
Off the Wagon, 109 MacDougal Street. Five minutes from the Arch.
- Best for a late or out-of-market game: 17 TVs, a 100-inch screen and a 4:00 AM close every night.
- Skip if you need dinner after midnight without calling; its site gives two different closing times for the kitchen.
Amity Hall Downtown, 80 West 3rd Street. Four minutes from the Arch.
- Best for Jets and Knicks fans and an 11:00 AM weekend start, with a nightly food special from Monday to Friday.
- Skip if you want an outdoor table late; its hours page notes that outside closes at 10:00 PM.
The Beer Garage West Village, 118 Christopher Street. Eleven minutes west of the Arch.
- Best for watching with friends who also want to talk, a long beer list and a heated garden afterward.
- Skip if the game ends after midnight or you are set on being five minutes from your dorm.

New York’s drinking age is 21, and every room on this page is a bar first. Bring a government-issued photo ID such as a driver’s license or passport; a student card does not prove your age for a drink. If part of your group is under 21, call the bar before you set off rather than finding out at the door.
Five things to check first
- Every hour here is a reading, not a guarantee. We copied them on October 14, 2026. Big games and holidays move them, so call ahead.
- Some sites contradict themselves. The Half Pint prints an “11:30 PM” opening from Tuesday to Friday, which looks like a typo for 11:30 AM. Off the Wagon says its kitchen closes at midnight in one place and stays open until 4:00 AM in another. Amity Hall’s page lists a Monday kitchen close of “11am”.
- Game days change the rules. Phebe’s takes no reservations when the Bengals play, and 3 Sheets books through Instagram messages rather than a form.
- Team lists age. The Rangers’ page still speaks of the Centennial season. Lists are updated by the teams, not the bars, so confirm with the bar.
- Close is not a time. Reservoir prints “to close” and no hour. If you need to know when last call comes, ask.
Find your bar
Pick when the game is, then what matters most. Each of the sixteen answers names a room from this page.
1. When is the game?
2. What matters most?
3 Sheets, 134 West 3rd Street. Open at noon on Saturday with 24 screens. Off the Wagon, around the corner, opens at noon too, with 17 TVs and a 100-inch screen.
3 Sheets. Its Saturday special runs noon to 7:00 PM, with half-priced wings until 5:00 PM. Off the Wagon’s Saturday pitchers start at $11 at noon and go up $1 an hour until 5:00 PM.
Rocco’s Sports & Rec, 1 West 3rd Street. Open from 11:00 AM on Saturday, with a chef-driven menu by its own description. Amity Hall Downtown also opens at 11:00 AM and serves a weekend bottomless brunch.
The Beer Garage, 118 Christopher Street. Open at noon on Saturday, eleven minutes west of the Arch, with a heated garden out back. Call 646-490-4301 to ask which game is on.
Off the Wagon, 109 MacDougal Street. Open from noon with 17 TVs and a 100-inch screen. 3 Sheets opens at noon as well. Skip Josie Woods for the early games: it opens at 2:00 PM on Sundays.
3 Sheets. Sunday from noon brings $5 drafts and mimosas. Off the Wagon sells $5 draft beer from 7:00 PM, in time for the night game.
Amity Hall Downtown, 80 West 3rd Street. Open at 11:00 AM on Sunday, with bottomless brunch and the NFL listed among its weekly happenings. Rocco’s opens at 11:00 AM too.
The Beer Garage, 118 Christopher Street. We open at 1:00 PM on Sunday, right at kickoff, and close at 11:00 PM. Best for the late window and a seat in the garden.
3 Sheets. Open from 2:00 PM on weekdays with 24 screens. Off the Wagon has been open since noon with its 100-inch screen.
Down the Hatch, 179 West 4th Street. Half off all drinks from 2:00 to 7:00 PM, Monday to Friday. Off the Wagon takes $2 off the entire bar until 7:00 PM.
Amity Hall Downtown. A food special most weeknights: half-price wings on Monday, $5 cheeseburgers on Tuesday, trivia from 7:30 PM on Wednesday. Rocco’s sells $1.50 wings on Tuesdays.
The Beer Garage, 118 Christopher Street. Open from 3:00 PM, Monday to Thursday, until 11:00 PM. Closer to campus, Josie Woods at 11 Waverly Place has pool and darts as well as 14 HD TVs.
Off the Wagon. Open until 4:00 AM every night, with the only 100-inch screen any bar on this page mentions. Down the Hatch runs to 4:00 AM nightly too.
Down the Hatch. $5 Jell-O shots and $5 Michelob Ultra or Tecate from opening until 4:00 AM, every day.
Down the Hatch. $3 hot dogs from midnight to 4:00 AM. Off the Wagon may still be cooking, but its site gives two kitchen hours, so call. Phebe’s kitchen closes at 10:00 PM.
Not us. We are closed by midnight. Josie Woods runs to 4:00 AM from Thursday to Saturday with a pool table, and Wicked Willy’s is open to 4:00 AM every night.
How we checked
We listed every bar within about eleven minutes’ walk of the Washington Square Arch that either calls itself a sports bar or describes showing games on its own website, plus any bar that a team’s official list places in the area. On October 14, 2026 we opened each bar’s website, including pages that only load in a browser, and copied its own words about sport, its hours and its happy hour. Customer reviews that some sites display were ignored. We then read the Giants, Jets, Knicks and Rangers lists, and timed each walk from the Arch in Google Maps.
It does not rank the bars, and it is not based on visits by our team. MacDougal Street Ale House at 122 MacDougal Street is missing because the website on its listing returned an error when we checked, and White Oak Tavern on Waverly Place describes itself as a tavern and whiskey bar, with no mention of sport.
No bar paid to appear or asked to be left out. NYU’s student newspaper, Washington Square News, published its own list of sports bars near campus in October 2025; we used it only to make sure we had not missed a name.
118 Christopher Street: the game, a garden, 37 lines
The Beer Garage West Village is at 118 Christopher Street, New York, NY 10014, eleven minutes from the Washington Square Arch and three minutes from the 1 train. We open at 3:00 PM Monday to Thursday and close at 11:00 PM; Friday runs 2:00 PM to midnight, Saturday noon to midnight and Sunday 1:00 to 11:00 PM.
In Brooklyn, The Beer Garage Park Slope is at 148 5th Avenue, 718-576-3409, with a kitchen that is entirely gluten-free.

Josie Woods is the one to avoid for an early Sunday kickoff. When you would rather hear your friends than the crowd, walk eleven minutes west to 118 Christopher Street, and plan to finish by 11:00 PM.
