Craft beer · Brooklyn · Updated October 13, 2026
Brooklyn’s best-known brewery is closed for a move. Twelve other rooms are pouring.
We read the websites of the breweries and beer bars that Brooklyn guides keep sending people to. Some are thriving, one is between buildings, one has left Gowanus, and a few old web addresses now open spam and gambling pages. Here is what is actually open, from our Park Slope door.
- Twelve rooms read on their own sites, September 30, 2026
- Hours, food, bookings and dogs for each
- Travel measured from 148 5th Avenue
- Old names checked: moved, closed or offline
- Our Park Slope kitchen is gluten-free on every plate
Finding a craft beer bar in Brooklyn is easy; finding out whether the one in an old round-up is still there is the hard part. On September 30, 2026 we opened the site of every Brooklyn brewery taproom and destination beer bar we could name and wrote down what each one says today: its hours, how many drafts it claims, whether it feeds you, whether it takes bookings and whether the dog can come.
Twelve rooms passed. Brooklyn Brewery did not, for a good reason: its tasting room shows every day closed while it moves to 1 Wythe Avenue. For the fifteen tap lists inside Park Slope itself, see our guide to the craft beer bar in Park Slope; this page is the borough-wide view, measured from The Beer Garage in Park Slope.
For the deepest list, Tørst at 615 Manhattan Avenue in Greenpoint prints 21 rotating drafts, updated September 29, 2026, and says it keeps more than 200 bottles and cans. For beer at the source with a real kitchen, Grimm’s new Tavern at 659 Vanderbilt Avenue is a 17-minute walk from Park Slope, and Grimm’s own site says the brewery has been named New York State Brewery of the Year five times.
Closest to us, Threes Brewing at 333 Douglass Street is four minutes away and Wild East Brewing at 623 Sackett Street six. Do not head for Brooklyn Brewery until its new space at 1 Wythe Avenue opens; on October 7, 2026 its site still listed no open days.
Nearly every beer in these rooms is brewed from barley or wheat, so a taproom crawl is hard going for a guest who avoids gluten. Several of them pour cider, wine or non-alcoholic drinks: Wild East, Strong Rope and TALEA all say so on their sites, and Tørst had a farmhouse cider on its list; the cider section below names every cider we found. Food is the bigger gap, because a brewery pop-up rarely labels anything.
At 148 5th Avenue that part is settled: the Park Slope menu is printed as fully gluten-free, so the plates on the table need no questions. That covers our Park Slope kitchen only. Our West Village kitchen at 118 Christopher Street is a standard one.
Craft beer bar in Brooklyn: twelve rooms that are open
Sorted by how long it takes to get there from 148 5th Avenue. Short trips are Google Maps walking times; the rest are its fastest public transit option for a Saturday leaving at 6:05 PM. “Drafts” is only what the venue itself states; where it gives no number, the column says so.
| Room | Neighborhood | From our door | Hours on its site | Drafts it states |

Three things stand out. Only four of the twelve put a number on their drafts, and only Tørst dates the list on its own site. The latest night is in Greenpoint, where Tørst pours until 1:00 AM on Friday and Saturday. And the earliest start is Other Half on Centre Street, which opens at 10:00 AM on Saturdays.
Food, bookings and dogs
This is where Brooklyn taprooms differ most, and where a wasted trip usually starts. Every answer below is the venue’s own, from its FAQ or visit page.
| Room | Food | Bring your own food? | Reservations | Dogs |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| The Beer Garage, Park Slope | Full kitchen, every plate gluten-free | No need | OpenTable | Not stated |
| Threes, Gowanus and Greenpoint | Food partners at each site; a full menu from Grand Army in Greenpoint | No, desserts only | Case by case | Sidewalk seating only; not in the Gowanus yard |
| Wild East, Gowanus | Small bites; pop-ups Friday to Sunday | Yes | Not stated | Welcome |
| Grimm Tavern, Prospect Heights | Full menu: dinner, lunch and late night | No need | Resy | Not stated |
| Other Half, Centre St and Domino Park | No kitchen; light snacks at Centre Street | Yes, or have it delivered | First come, first served; group events bookable | Welcome on a leash |
| TALEA, Cobble Hill and Williamsburg | Detroit-style sourdough pizza, pretzels, salads, cheese | Not stated | Not stated; event spaces bookable | Not stated |
| Tørst, Greenpoint | Seasonal bar menu, burgers, late-night plates | No need | Resy | Not stated |
| Strong Rope, Red Hook | No kitchen; pop-ups and food trucks | Yes, or order delivery | Indoor tables bookable; outside first come | Welcome on a leash |
| Grimm, East Williamsburg | Lala’s Apizza on site | Not stated | Table bookings page | Not stated |
| KCBC, Bushwick | Snacks; rotating pop-ups | Yes | Generally no; groups of 7 or more by email | Welcome |
The split is clean. Threes, Grimm, TALEA and Tørst feed you and, at Threes, will not let you bring your own. Other Half, Strong Rope, KCBC and Wild East are brewery rooms first: bring dinner, or catch a pop-up, and bring the dog.
Near Park Slope: four rooms within a walk
Threes Brewing, 333 Douglass Street. Four minutes from us. Open noon to midnight six days a week, with a yard, a music room and a public events calendar that runs from trivia to live music. Its FAQ is strict on two points: no outside food, because each site has food partners, and dogs only at the sidewalk seats.
Wild East Brewing, 623 Sackett Street. Six minutes from us. It says it is Cask Marque accredited, its Hexenkessel schwarzbier is marked as a 2026 New York State Governor’s Cup winner, and dogs and outside food are both welcome. Its October calendar includes trivia on the 7th, and on the 8th the taproom closes to the public from 6:30 to 8:00 PM for a ticketed lecture before a free comedy night.
Grimm Tavern, 659 Vanderbilt Avenue. Seventeen minutes from us. Grimm opened it in spring 2026 as a neighborhood tavern with dry-aged meats, beer on tap and a backyard, and it takes bookings on Resy. It is the only room on this page that is closed on Mondays, and on Sundays it shuts at 5:00 PM.
TALEA, 61 Bergen Street. Twenty-three minutes on foot. High ceilings, outdoor seating, a mezzanine bar for events, and the same food as its Williamsburg brewery: Detroit-style sourdough pizza, pretzels, salads and cheese.
Worth the ride north
Tørst, 615 Manhattan Avenue, Greenpoint. The beer bar on this page, rather than a brewery. Its list is sorted light to dark and was updated September 29, 2026; that day four of its 21 lines were from Hill Farmstead, and a few lines were wine, sake and a farmhouse cider. It has a back room for 40 or more and stays open until 1:00 AM on Friday and Saturday.
Grimm Artisanal Ales, 990 Metropolitan Avenue. Twenty draft lines inside a working brewery and winery, a rooftop bar that is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, and Lala’s Apizza in the same building. One thing to know before you go: on weekdays until 5:00 PM, and Fridays from noon, it has limited indoor bar seating while production finishes for the day.
KCBC, 381 Troutman Street, Bushwick. Opened in 2016, and its site calls it the first production brewery in Bushwick in more than 40 years. It is the value pick: its events page lists $7 select pours from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Monday to Thursday and $10 flights on Wednesdays.
Other Half, 195 Centre Street and 34 River Street. The original, open since 2014, pours 20 drafts two blocks from the Smith-9th Streets station and is the quickest trip on this list from Park Slope by subway. The Domino Park room is built for groups, with draft cocktails and a little outdoor seating across the street from the park. Neither has a kitchen.
Strong Rope Brewery, 185 Van Dyke Street, Red Hook. A 42-minute trip by two buses, to a patio that faces New York Harbor with the Statue of Liberty in view. It says its beers are made with 100 per cent New York ingredients, and asked about televisions, its FAQ says it has projectors and occasionally shows special events. Its events calendar lists the days it closes for private events, so check it before you go.
Cider bar in Brooklyn: two have closed, seven rooms pour one
A Google Maps search for a cider bar in Brooklyn on October 2, 2026 returned four places. Two are marked permanently closed: Brooklyn Cider House at 1100 Flushing Avenue in Bushwick, whose own site now lists only its orchard tasting room in New Paltz, and Bad Seed at 585 Franklin Avenue in Crown Heights.
The third, Red Hook Cidery, is listed at 185 Van Dyke Street, the address of Strong Rope’s Red Hook taproom, with no website, so we could not read its list. The fourth is The Owl Farm, a Park Slope beer bar. So we read the cider lines on Brooklyn’s taproom and bar menus instead. Seven rooms print at least one cider, and four of them print a price.
| Room | Neighborhood | Cider on its menu | Price printed |
|---|---|---|---|
| The Owl Farm, 297 9th St | Park Slope | Four on draft: Art + Science Humble, Fuchshof Most (a German cider), Shacksbury Arlo and Stowe Double Dry, plus eleven bottles of cider and perry in its cellar, on a list updated October 1 | Draft not printed; bottles $25 to $60 |
| KCBC, 381 Troutman St | Bushwick | Two: Doc’s Hard Apple Cider from Warwick, New York, and Graft Farm Flor from Newburgh on draft, on a menu updated September 25 | $9 for Doc’s; Graft not priced |
| Strong Rope, 185 Van Dyke St | Red Hook | Brooklyn Cider House Bone Dry, 6.9% | $5 for 5 oz, $11 for 12 oz |
| Bar Blondeau, 80 Wythe Ave, 6th floor | Williamsburg | Aval Cider Blanc, from France | $10 |
| Other Half, 195 Centre St | Carroll Gardens and Red Hook edge | Shacksbury Dry on draft | Not printed |
| Other Half, 34 River St (Domino Park) | Williamsburg | Original Sin on draft | Not printed |
| Tørst, 615 Manhattan Ave | Greenpoint | Farmhouse Pheasant, a dry cider from Rose Hill Farm, on draft, on a list updated September 29 | Not printed |
| The Beer Garage, 148 5th Ave | Park Slope | Not published; our Manhattan room lists a cider | $10 in Manhattan |
The Owl Farm has the most by far, four on draft and eleven bottles in its cellar, a German Most and a Kingston Black made from English apples among them; outside Park Slope, Bar Blondeau’s French Aval is the only European cider on these lists. Four rooms print a price, and Strong Rope’s is the lowest: $5 for a 5-ounce pour of Bone Dry, made by Brooklyn Cider House, whose Bushwick cider house is now closed.
Cider is fermented from apples rather than grain, which makes it the usual order for a guest who avoids gluten, but none of these seven menus labels a cider gluten-free, so check the cidery’s label if it matters. For the twelve Park Slope bars that print a cider, see our cider bar in Park Slope guide.
Our taps, honestly
The Beer Garage at 148 5th Avenue pours a rotating selection of craft beer sourced locally, in our homepage’s words, and does not publish the Park Slope tap list. We brew nothing ourselves, so on a page about breweries we are the bar at the end of the walk, not the destination.
What we can put on the table is the rest of the round. Drafts are $7 at happy hour, 3:00 to 7:00 PM Monday to Thursday, according to our OpenTable listing, and the kitchen behind the taps is gluten-free on every plate. The comparison with the neighbors is in our happy hour in Park Slope guide. Our Manhattan room is the one that publishes its list: 37 beer and cider lines, set out in our Manhattan craft beer guide.
Which room for which night
Four rooms, four different evenings. Each line comes from the room’s own site.
Tørst, 615 Manhattan Avenue. Thirty-eight minutes by transit, in Greenpoint.
- Best for the serious list: 21 rotating drafts updated September 29, 2026, more than 200 bottles and cans, and food until late.
- Skip if you want prices before you go: the draft list prints none.
Grimm Tavern, 659 Vanderbilt Avenue. Seventeen minutes on foot from us.
- Best for dinner with a brewery’s beer: a dry-aged smash burger with tallow fries at $23, a soft pretzel with weissbier fondue at $14, a backyard, and Resy bookings.
- Skip if it is Monday, when it is closed, or Sunday evening, when it shuts at 5:00 PM.
KCBC, 381 Troutman Street. Fifty-three minutes by transit, in Bushwick.
- Best for a cheaper round with the dog: $7 select pours 4:00 to 7:00 PM Monday to Thursday, $10 flights on Wednesdays, and dogs welcome.
- Skip if you are a group of seven or more and have not emailed ahead; it generally takes no reservations.
The Beer Garage, 148 5th Avenue. Our own room, entrance on Douglass Street, four minutes from Threes.
- Best for the start or the end of a Gowanus crawl, with food nobody has to question: $7 drafts at happy hour Monday to Thursday and a gluten-free kitchen.
- Skip if you want beer brewed on the premises. We pour other people’s; call 718-576-3409 to hear what is on.

Every beer on this page is for guests 21 and over with ID, and several rooms pour beers well above 8 per cent; Grimm’s list that day had two at 12. Some taprooms welcome children, Wild East in the daytime and early evening, but the bar is for adults. The rooms in Greenpoint, Williamsburg and Bushwick are 38 to 54 minutes from Park Slope by transit, so plan the ride back before the second flight.
Before you go: names to cross off
Brooklyn Brewery is between homes. Its visit page lists every day as closed and says it will be at 1 Wythe Avenue very soon. Check that page before you travel.
Strong Rope has left Gowanus. Its site says the taproom at 574 President Street closed for good on March 28, 2026, after ten years. Red Hook is the only one now.
Some famous web addresses no longer lead to the bar. The old addresses for Spuyten Duyvil, Mugs Alehouse and Brouwerij Lane now open hotel-spam or gambling pages, so a link from an older guide will not tell you whether the bar is open. We left all three out rather than guess.
Others have moved on or gone quiet online. Braven’s site now lists only an address in Newport, Rhode Island. Circa Brewing’s address is a domain for sale, and Folksbier’s site is an empty placeholder. Interboro’s site shows no taproom hours.
Check the calendar on the day. Strong Rope and Wild East both close to the public for private events from time to time, and most rooms post those closures on their events pages only.
Find your taproom
Two questions, sixteen answers, all from the rooms above.
1. What kind of night?
2. What matters most?
Threes Brewing, 333 Douglass Street. Four minutes from us, with 20 beers on the drinks menu its site links to, updated September 25, its own and guest beers together.
Tørst, 615 Manhattan Avenue. 21 rotating drafts on a list updated September 29, and more than 200 bottles and cans, open until 1:00 AM on Friday and Saturday.
Other Half, 195 Centre Street. 20 draft beers, leashed dogs welcome, and 20 minutes from Park Slope by subway.
The Beer Garage, 148 5th Avenue, with a caution. Draft beer is brewed from grain, so it is not gluten-free; our Park Slope kitchen is, on every plate. Ask which cider is pouring.
Grimm Tavern, 659 Vanderbilt Avenue. Seventeen minutes on foot, with dry-aged steaks, a $23 smash burger and a backyard. Book on Resy; closed Monday.
Grimm Artisanal Ales, 990 Metropolitan Avenue. Twenty drafts and Lala’s Apizza in the same building, plus a rooftop bar that is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Wild East Brewing, 623 Sackett Street. Dogs and outside food are both welcome, and pop-ups cook most Fridays to Sundays. Six minutes from us.
The Beer Garage, 148 5th Avenue. The whole Park Slope menu is gluten-free, with $7 drafts at happy hour from 3:00 to 7:00 PM Monday to Thursday.
TALEA, 61 Bergen Street. Outdoor seating and sourdough pizza in Cobble Hill, 23 minutes on foot, open until 11:00 PM on Friday and Saturday.
Other Half, 34 River Street. Limited outdoor seating across the street from Domino Park, draft cocktails as well as beer, and Roberta’s down the block for food.
Strong Rope Brewery, 185 Van Dyke Street. A harbor-facing patio in Red Hook, dogs welcome on a leash, with water bowls if you ask. Outside seats are first come.
The Beer Garage, 148 5th Avenue. Sidewalk seats out front on 5th Avenue and a kitchen where every plate is gluten-free.
The Beer Garage, 148 5th Avenue. $7 drafts from 3:00 to 7:00 PM Monday to Thursday. Threes, four minutes away, listed its West Coast IPA at $8 for 16 ounces.
KCBC, 381 Troutman Street. $7 select pours from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Monday to Thursday, and $10 flights every Wednesday.
KCBC or Other Half. Both welcome dogs and let you bring your own food, which keeps the bill to the beer. KCBC adds a weekday happy hour.
The Beer Garage, 148 5th Avenue. Happy hour drafts at $7 and a menu with no gluten on it. Ask which cider is in for the guest who cannot have beer.
How we checked
On September 30, 2026 we opened the website of each Brooklyn brewery taproom and beer bar we could name, in a normal browser, and read its visit, hours, FAQ and menu pages. Hours, drink counts and policies are the venue’s own words. Where a venue’s web address led somewhere else, we recorded that and left the venue out.
Walking times come from Google Maps walking mode from 148 5th Avenue. Transit times are the fastest option Google Maps showed for a Saturday departure at 6:05 PM, so a weekday trip may differ. Threes’ draft count comes from the menu its site linked on September 29. No venue paid to appear.
Start or finish the crawl in Park Slope
The Beer Garage Park Slope, 148 5th Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11217, entrance on Douglass Street, four minutes from Threes Brewing. Happy hour 3:00 to 7:00 PM Monday to Thursday; open until 10:00 PM, 11:00 PM on Friday and Saturday.
Our Manhattan room is at 118 Christopher Street in the West Village, 646-490-4301; its kitchen is standard, not gluten-free.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best craft beer bar in Brooklyn?
For range, Tørst at 615 Manhattan Avenue in Greenpoint lists 21 rotating drafts, updated September 29, 2026, and more than 200 bottles and cans. For beer at the source, Grimm, Other Half, KCBC, TALEA, Threes, Wild East and Strong Rope all run Brooklyn taprooms that listed opening hours on September 30, 2026.
Is the Brooklyn Brewery taproom open?
Not on September 30, 2026. Its visit page lists every day as closed and says it will open at 1 Wythe Avenue in Williamsburg very soon. Check that page before you go.
Which Brooklyn breweries let you bring your own food?
Other Half, Strong Rope, KCBC and Wild East all say outside food is welcome. Threes does not allow it, apart from desserts, because it has food partners at each site. Grimm, TALEA and Tørst serve their own food.
Which Brooklyn taprooms are dog-friendly?
Other Half and Strong Rope welcome leashed dogs, and KCBC and Wild East say dogs are welcome. Threes allows dogs at its sidewalk seating in Gowanus and Greenpoint only, not in the Gowanus yard.
What breweries can I walk to from Park Slope?
From 148 5th Avenue, Threes Brewing at 333 Douglass Street is four minutes away and Wild East Brewing at 623 Sackett Street is six. Grimm Tavern at 659 Vanderbilt Avenue is seventeen minutes and TALEA at 61 Bergen Street in Cobble Hill is twenty-three.
Is there a cider bar in Brooklyn?
Not a dedicated one with a menu online. On October 2, 2026, Google Maps marked Brooklyn Cider House in Bushwick and Bad Seed in Crown Heights permanently closed, and Red Hook Cidery, listed at Strong Rope’s Red Hook address, has no website. Seven Brooklyn rooms print a cider instead: The Owl Farm in Park Slope lists the most, four on draft and eleven in bottles, KCBC lists two, and Strong Rope pours Brooklyn Cider House Bone Dry at $5 for 5 ounces.
Does The Beer Garage brew its own beer?
No. The Park Slope bar at 148 5th Avenue pours a rotating selection of craft beer sourced locally and does not publish the list, so call 718-576-3409. Drafts are $7 at happy hour from 3:00 to 7:00 PM Monday to Thursday, and the Park Slope kitchen is fully gluten-free.
The verdict
A craft beer bar in Brooklyn is not hard to find, but the borough’s guides age fast: one famous brewery is mid-move, one has closed its Gowanus room, and three famous bars’ old web addresses now lead to spam. Twelve rooms checked out on September 30. Tørst for the list, Grimm for beer with dinner, KCBC for value, Other Half and Strong Rope if the dog is coming.
From Park Slope, the easy version is a short walk: Threes, Wild East, then Grimm Tavern on Vanderbilt. Start or finish with us if the table needs food that nobody has to ask about.
