Every list of cool spots for private events in the West Village gives you names. Almost none gives you numbers, because the venues themselves rarely print them. So on September 28, 2026 we read the private-events, reservations and hours pages on the websites of twenty-two bars within a sixteen-minute walk of our door, and held our own room at 118 Christopher Street to the same test.

The honest headline is in the hero: four venues print a price, seven print a capacity, and we print neither. What we do print is every drink price on our menu and the words “private parties and corporate events of any size”, and we say below exactly what that is worth to you and what it is not.

Short answer

For a priced package, Dante West Village at 551 Hudson Street prints $35 or $45 a person per hour for parties of eight or more, and Houston Hall at 222 West Houston Street prints $100 to $150 a person for 20 to 110 guests with a two-hour minimum.

For a named room with a printed capacity, White Horse Tavern at 567 Hudson Street lists two 30-person rooms and a 100-person main bar, and Hudson Hound at 575 Hudson Street a 40-person room that is not offered on Fridays or Saturdays.

For a whole bar, TALEA at 102 Christopher Street prints buyouts from $5,000 and Cellar Dog at 75 Christopher Street takes parties of 20 to 275. Our own room, The Beer Garage at 118 Christopher Street, hosts parties of any size by phone or email, with a heated backyard garden and a fully priced drinks list, but no printed package. Ask us and we will quote in writing.

A note on the kitchen before you plan the food

The kitchen at 118 Christopher Street is a standard one, and the menu labels no dish gluten-free. If your party needs a gluten-free spread, that is our Brooklyn room at 148 5th Avenue in Park Slope, where the whole menu is printed “100% gluten-free”. None of the twenty-two other party pages we read mentions gluten either way.

Cool spots for private events in the West Village: what each venue prints

The table is sorted by walk from 118 Christopher Street, measured in Google Maps walking mode. “What the site prints” holds only numbers and rules the venue puts on its own pages; a page with a form and no figures is recorded as inquiry only. Two venues whose sites could not be read are in the warnings, not here.

Private-event terms published on twenty-three West Village venues’ own websites, read September 28, 2026. Walks from 118 Christopher Street, Google Maps walking mode.

Read the third column and a pattern shows. The venues that print a price are the ones that sell packages by the head: Dante, Houston Hall, Bayard’s and TALEA. The venues that print a capacity are the ones with a room to close: White Horse, Hudson Hound, Houston Hall, Cellar Dog, TALEA and the Standard. Everyone else, ourselves included, asks you to write first.

Five of the twenty-three either turn the idea away or say nothing about it. Wilfie & Nell and The Stonewall Inn take no reservations, Employees Only has no events page, and Kettle of Fish and Cubbyhole do not mention private hire anywhere on their sites.

The four that print a price

These are the only per-person or minimum figures printed on any of the twenty-three sites. Each is copied as published on September 28, 2026; add tax and gratuity, which none of the four includes.

Private-event prices printed on the venues’ own websites, West Village, read September 28, 2026. USD, before tax and gratuity.
Venue What is priced Printed figure Conditions printed
Dante West Village Beverage package, per person per hour Classic $35; Premium $45 Classic is beer, wine and house spirits, no cocktails; Premium adds cocktails; priced for the first two hours, then $20 or $30 an hour by prior notice; parties of 8 or more
Houston Hall Package, per person VIP Tap Room $115 or $150; Back Half $100 or $135 Lower figure is beer, wine and soda, higher is open bar; VIP Tap Room 20 to 30, Back Half 50 to 110; platters included; events priced for a minimum of two hours; two to three weeks’ lead time
Houston Hall Communal table, minimum spend $1,200 a table Up to 20 guests a table
TALEA Beer Co Minimum spend From $1,500; full buyout from $5,000 Plus a room rental fee and an admin fee; “pricing varies based on location”, so treat as a floor for the Christopher Street taproom
Bayard’s Ale House Recommended budget, per person $110 Printed as a recommendation, not a minimum; up to 110 guests

Worked out for a party of 25 over three hours, Dante’s Classic package comes to $90 a person, or $2,250 before tax and gratuity; Houston Hall’s VIP Tap Room with beer, wine and soda is $115 a person, $2,875, with four platters included. Those are the two most complete answers the neighborhood gives in writing.

Rooms you can actually close

“Private” on a party page can mean anything from a velvet rope to a locked door. These are the spaces the sites name, with the capacity where one is printed.

White Horse Tavern, 567 Hudson Street. Five minutes from us, and the only site that prints a capacity for each of its rooms.

  • Best for 20 to 30 people who want a door: the Dylan Thomas Room or the Back Parlor Room, each 30 standing or 20 seated, or the Main Bar at 100 standing. Its page names birthdays, engagement parties and corporate lunches.
  • Skip if you need a price before you write; every room says “inquire for pricing”.

Houston Hall, 222 West Houston Street. Nine minutes, and the most fully priced party page in the neighborhood.

  • Best for a group of 50 to 110 that wants a per-head figure in advance: the Back Half of the beer hall at $100 or $135 a person, with platters and a signature cocktail included, or the VIP Tap Room for 20 to 30 with its own bartender.
  • Skip if it is a Monday and you have not booked; the hall is closed that day except for private events, and its Sunday close is 8:00 PM.

Hudson Hound, 575 Hudson Street. Six minutes, and a printed room size with a printed catch.

  • Best for up to 40 guests on a Sunday or a weeknight, in a room the site calls private.
  • Skip if the party is on a Friday or Saturday; its party page says those days are not available to reserve. Expect a 20 per cent gratuity on any party of six or more.

The Beer Garage, 118 Christopher Street. Ours, and the honest version is short.

  • Best for a party that wants a heated backyard garden and a drinks bill it can price from the menu before it asks: pitchers $35, a Guinness pitcher $40, a beer tower $70, a mimosa and bellini pitcher $40, happy hour platters $12, and 37 beer and cider lines.
  • Skip if you need a printed capacity or a package. We do not print one yet; our Brooklyn room does, and we are working on this one. Email and we will quote in writing.

Three more rooms are named without a capacity: the Lido Deck upstairs at 3 Sheets Saloon, the Balcony upstairs at Off The Wagon, and the Back Room at Down the Hatch, which its own page calls semi-private. The Spaniard says only “multiple private room options”. The Garret West is a whole second-floor bar that takes groups of ten or more by form.

Our room, honestly

Our homepage says we host private parties and corporate events of any size, and gives the West Village number, 646-490-4301, and BeerGarageBK@gmail.com. That is a true offer and a thin page, and we would rather say so than pad it. Here is what a party can and cannot work out from what we publish.

What The Beer Garage West Village publishes for a private party, from beergarageny.com and our online ordering menu, read September 28, 2026. USD, before tax and tip.
Question What we print Where
Do you take private events? Yes, “private parties and corporate events of any size” Homepage
How many people? Not printed; ask us Nowhere yet
Minimum spend or package? Not printed; our Park Slope room prints two packages on its booking listing, this room does not Nowhere yet
What will drinks cost? Draft beer $8 to $12, most $10; pitcher $35; Guinness pitcher $40; beer tower $70; flight $16; signature cocktails $15; spritzes $13; mimosa and bellini pitcher $40; High Noon buckets $28 to $52 Online ordering menu
Food for a group? Happy hour plates $12 each, including wings, tenders, poppers and guacamole; six oysters $12; a full menu Online ordering menu; the homepage flyer also offers catering
Outdoor space? A heated backyard garden Homepage; see our garden guide
When? Monday to Thursday 3:00 to 11:00 PM; Friday 2:00 PM to midnight; Saturday noon to midnight; Sunday 1:00 to 11:00 PM Website footer

So a party of 25 can price its own drinks from our menu, which is more than most pages on this list allow, but it cannot price the room. If a printed package matters to you, Dante and Houston Hall are the two honest alternatives within nine minutes. If a garden and a $10 draft matter more, write to us.

Twenty-one and over, and the packages say so

Every venue on this page serves alcohol, so every guest who drinks needs ID showing 21 or over. Houston Hall and Dante sell their packages by the person, so a guest list with under-21s is a conversation to have before you sign, not after. If the event is the twenty-first birthday itself, bring the card with the date on it.

Closing times for the late crowd

A party that starts at 9:00 PM needs a room that is open at midnight. These are the closing times each venue prints on its own site, read September 28, 2026. We close at 11:00 PM on weeknights and midnight on Friday and Saturday, which makes us one of the earliest closes here, and we would rather say so.

Closing times published on each West Village venue’s own website, read September 28, 2026. All times Eastern.

For a party still going at 3:00 AM on a Saturday, twelve venues print a 4:00 AM close: Employees Only, Arthur’s, Cellar Dog, Stonewall, Bayard’s, Kettle of Fish, Wilfie & Nell, The Spaniard, Down the Hatch, Off The Wagon, 3 Sheets and Cubbyhole. Only Employees Only, Wilfie & Nell, The Spaniard, Wogies and Off The Wagon print when their kitchens stop.

Before you book: four warnings

Fat Cat is gone. The jazz basement at 75 Christopher Street closed in 2020 and reopened in June 2021 as Cellar Dog, as Time Out reported. Older party guides still list Fat Cat, and its old web address is now a domain for sale. Cellar Dog is the venue in our table.

Two sites could not be read. Fiddlesticks Pub at 56 Greenwich Avenue returned a server error to every request we made on September 28, 2026, and The Otheroom at 143 Perry Street has no working website we could find. Neither is in our tables, because we do not quote review sites for terms.

Several venues live at a different address online. The Spaniard’s site works only with “www”, Arthur’s Tavern is at arthurstavern.nyc, The Garret West at thegarretwest.com, 3 Sheets at 3sheetsnyc.com, and Sip & Guzzle at sipandguzzlenyc.com; the obvious guesses are dead or belong to someone else. Our sources list has the right ones.

Read the fine print on the priced packages. Dante’s per-hour price covers the first two hours, with a lower rate after that only by prior notice. Houston Hall’s prices are for a minimum of two hours and its page says the figures work best for groups of 20 or more. TALEA’s $1,500 and $5,000 floors are printed for the company, not this taproom alone, and sit on top of a room fee and an admin fee.

Holiday party venue in the West Village, December 2026

If you need a holiday party venue in the West Village, the list above gets short fast. We read every party page on it again on October 18, 2026, and only four rooms mention a holiday party at all. Houston Hall is the only one with a page of its own for it.

What each venue’s own pages say about holiday parties, read October 18, 2026. Walks measured in Google Maps walking mode from 118 Christopher Street on September 28, 2026. “None printed” means the site gives no price, not that the room is expensive.
Venue Walk from 118 Christopher St What its own pages say Price printed
Houston Hall, 222 West Houston St 9 minutes, 0.4 mile A holiday party page: communal tables for groups of 20, a VIP Tap Room for 20 to 30, the Back Half for 50 to 110 and the whole hall for up to 350; two-hour minimum; book two to three weeks ahead, earlier for Thursdays and Fridays Not on the holiday page; its birthday page prices the VIP Tap Room at $115 or $150 a person and the Back Half at $100 or $135
Bayard’s Ale House, 533 Hudson St 4 minutes, 0.2 mile “Bring your next holiday party to Bayard’s Ale House”; up to 110 guests A recommended budget of $110 a person
Dante West Village, 551 Hudson St 5 minutes, 0.2 mile “Holiday” is one of the event types on its inquiry form, for parties of eight or more $35 or $45 a person per hour for the first two hours
The Standard Biergarten, 848 Washington St 16 minutes, 0.7 mile Lists holiday parties among the events the Biergarten takes; 200 seated or 400 standing None printed
The Beer Garage, 118 Christopher St 0 minutes Private parties and corporate events “of any size” and a heated backyard garden; nothing holiday-specific None printed; quoted by phone or email

No other bar on this page mentions the holidays on its party pages. Cubbyhole’s own events page does show it throwing an open annual holiday party in past Decembers, most recently on December 18, 2024, with charcuterie and drink specials, but that is a night out, not a room you can book.

The December calendar. In 2026 the Fridays before Christmas are December 4, 11 and 18. Christmas Day is itself a Friday, and Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve both fall on Thursdays. Houston Hall asks for two to three weeks for most dates and says Thursdays and Fridays go earlier, so for Friday, December 18 the three-week mark is Friday, November 27, the day after Thanksgiving. None of the other pages gives a booking window, so write as soon as you have a date.

What 30 guests for two hours costs, in writing. Houston Hall’s VIP Tap Room with beer, wine and soda, at its birthday-page price of $115 a person, comes to $3,450 with four food platters included. Bayard’s recommended budget of $110 a person comes to $3,300. Dante’s Classic package, beer, wine and house spirits at $35 a person per hour, is $70 a person for two hours, or $2,100 for drinks alone. None of the three pages says whether tax or gratuity is included, and none of these figures is a quote.

Our room in December. The Beer Garage at 118 Christopher Street takes a holiday party the way it takes any party: call 646-490-4301 or email BeerGarageBK@gmail.com. When we read beergarageny.com on October 18, 2026, it printed no holiday package, minimum or December dates, so we cannot put a number in the table yet.

What the site does promise is the heated backyard garden behind the bar, and our drinks are priced on the online menu (see Our room, honestly). The West Village kitchen is standard. If someone in your group needs a fully gluten-free menu, our Park Slope kitchen is 100 per cent gluten-free, and our holiday party venue in Brooklyn guide covers that room.

Find your room

Two questions, sixteen answers, all taken from the tables above.

1. How many are coming?

Use the tables above: Dante and Houston Hall for printed prices, White Horse Tavern and Hudson Hound for rooms with printed capacities, TALEA, Cellar Dog and the Standard Biergarten for buyouts, and The Beer Garage for a heated garden with a priced drinks list, quoted by email.

How we checked

How we checked

On September 28, 2026 we read the private-events, reservations, contact and hours pages on each venue’s own website and copied the terms as printed. Where a site says nothing about private hire, the table says so. Where a site could not be reached, the venue is in the warnings and nowhere else.

We did not use review sites, listing platforms or press for any venue’s terms; press is cited once, to document a closure. For our own room we used our homepage and our public online ordering menu.

Walks were measured in Google Maps walking mode from 118 Christopher Street to each door. No venue paid to appear, and our own row is held to the same rule as everyone else’s, which is why it says “not printed” twice.

Frequently asked questions

What are some cool spots for private events in the West Village?

It depends on what you need in writing. For a printed price, Dante West Village at 551 Hudson Street ($35 or $45 a person per hour) and Houston Hall at 222 West Houston Street ($100 to $150 a person). For a room with a printed capacity, White Horse Tavern at 567 Hudson Street (two 30-person rooms, a 100-person bar) and Hudson Hound at 575 Hudson Street (40). For a buyout, TALEA at 102 Christopher Street, Cellar Dog at 75 Christopher Street and the Standard Biergarten.

The Beer Garage at 118 Christopher Street hosts events of any size with a heated garden, quoted by email. All read from each venue’s own site on September 28, 2026.

Which West Village bars publish private event prices?

Four of the twenty-three we read. Dante West Village prints $35 or $45 a person per hour for parties of eight or more. Houston Hall prints $100 to $150 a person by room and a $1,200 minimum per communal table. TALEA prints a minimum spend from $1,500 and buyouts from $5,000, company-wide. Bayard’s Ale House prints a recommended budget of $110 a person. Everyone else, The Beer Garage included, prices on inquiry.

Which West Village bars have a private room?

By their own sites: White Horse Tavern (the Dylan Thomas Room and the Back Parlor Room, 30 standing or 20 seated each), Hudson Hound (a private room for up to 40, not on Fridays or Saturdays), Houston Hall (the VIP Tap Room for 20 to 30), Off The Wagon (the Balcony), 3 Sheets Saloon (the Lido Deck) and Down the Hatch (a semi-private Back Room). The Spaniard says it has multiple private rooms without naming them.

Can I book The Beer Garage in the West Village for a private party?

Yes. Our homepage says we host private parties and corporate events of any size; email BeerGarageBK@gmail.com or call 646-490-4301 with the date, the headcount and the budget. We do not yet print a capacity or a package for this room, though our drinks are all priced on our public menu and the backyard garden is heated. Our Park Slope room prints two packages on its booking listing.

Which West Village venue takes the biggest party?

By printed capacity, the Standard Biergarten at 848 Washington Street, at 200 seated or 400 standing, then Cellar Dog at 75 Christopher Street at parties of 20 to 275, then TALEA at 102 Christopher Street at buyouts of 100 to 200. White Horse Tavern’s Main Bar and Bayard’s Ale House each print about 100 to 110.

Which West Village bars stay open late for a private event?

By their own printed hours, Employees Only, Kettle of Fish, Down the Hatch, Off The Wagon and The Stonewall Inn close at 4:00 AM every night, and Arthur’s Tavern, Cellar Dog, Bayard’s, Wilfie & Nell, The Spaniard, 3 Sheets and Cubbyhole reach 4:00 AM on Friday and Saturday. The Beer Garage closes at 11:00 PM on weeknights and midnight on Friday and Saturday.

What is a good holiday party venue in the West Village?

Houston Hall at 222 West Houston Street is the one West Village room with a holiday party page: tables for groups of 20, a VIP Tap Room for 20 to 30 and the Back Half for 50 to 110, with a two-hour minimum and two to three weeks’ notice. Bayard’s Ale House suggests a budget of $110 a person for up to 110 guests, and Dante prices drinks at $35 or $45 a person per hour. The Beer Garage at 118 Christopher Street quotes by phone or email and has a heated backyard garden. All read October 18, 2026.

The verdict

The cool spots for private events in the West Village are not short on character; they are short on numbers. Four of twenty-three print a price and seven print a capacity, and the rest ask you to write. If you want the figure before the email, go to Dante or Houston Hall. If you want a door, go to White Horse Tavern or Hudson Hound.

If you want a heated garden, 37 taps and a drinks bill you can add up from a public menu, write to us at 118 Christopher Street, and we will put the rest in writing too.
