Oysters in the West Village are easy to find and hard to compare. One menu sells them by three, another by the half dozen, a third by the piece with a minimum, and the towers mix them with shrimp and clams. The number that settles it is the price of a single oyster, so that is the one we worked out.

On October 9, 2026 we read the raw-bar sections of eight West Village menus, PDFs included, and divided each printed price by the number of oysters it buys. Every walk was timed from our West Village bar at 118 Christopher Street, and our own oysters are in the table, from our menu and our online ordering page the same day.

Short answer

For the full raw-bar experience, Jeffrey’s Grocery at 172 Waverly Place sells Atlantic oysters at $23 a half dozen, runs an oyster happy hour on weekdays from 3:30 to 5:30 PM, and builds plateaus from $29 to $159. Dante West Village on Hudson Street and its sister Dante Aperitivo on Bank Street both charge $27 for six, with a lime and ginger granita. The Clam on Hudson Street is the only room that prints a price for just three, $15.

The lowest printed price is ours. The Beer Garage at 118 Christopher Street lists oysters from Maine at $3 each, six at least, and six for $12 at happy hour, which works out at $2 an oyster, with a heated backyard garden to eat them in.

If you need the oysters gluten-free

Our West Village kitchen is a standard one, and its printed menu labels nothing gluten-free, so ask about mignonettes and sauces before you order there. Our Park Slope bar at 148 5th Avenue in Brooklyn works differently: the whole menu is headed “100% gluten-free”, and its own oyster happy hour is laid out in our oyster happy hour in Park Slope guide.

Oysters in the West Village: price per oyster, by walk

A room is in this table if its own website prints oysters on a menu. The last column divides the cheapest printed order by the number of oysters in it, so the rooms can be compared on one number. Walks were timed in Google Maps from our door on October 9, 2026.

Oyster prices on the own websites of eight West Village restaurants and bars, checked October 9, 2026 and listed nearest first from our door on Christopher Street. Dollar prices exclude tax and tip.

Away from our happy hour, the per-oyster spread is narrow: $3 on our menu, $3.75 to $4.67 at the restaurants, and $5 at The Clam, which is also the only room that will sell you three. The gap shows up in the half dozen. Six of ours cost $18, six Atlantic oysters at Jeffrey’s $23, American Bar’s $24, either Dante’s $27, Cafe Cluny’s $28 and The Clam’s $30, before tax and tip.

Oyster happy hours, and what they print

Three rooms tie oysters to a happy hour. Only one of them prints the happy-hour price.

Oyster happy hours on the own websites of West Village venues, read October 9, 2026.
Room When, as printed Oyster price at happy hour
The Beer Garage, 118 Christopher St Not printed 6 for $12, 12 for $24, 18 for $36, 24 for $48; extra oysters $2 each
Jeffrey’s Grocery, 172 Waverly Pl “Oyster Happy Hour”, Monday to Friday, 3:30 to 5:30 PM, holidays excluded Not printed
Aperitivo by Carta, 101 W 10th St “Golden Hour”, weekdays 4:00 to 6:00 PM, listing “wine, spritzes, oysters, and tapas” Not printed

The two printed halves never meet. Jeffrey’s and Carta print the time but not the price, and we print the price but not the time, so whichever you choose, a phone call settles it. The Clam’s weekday happy hour, 3:00 to 5:00 PM, lists drinks only: a $10 cucumber cooler, $10 wine and a $5 Narragansett.

Towers and plateaus

For a table that wants more than oysters, three rooms print a tower or plateau with a fixed count.

Seafood towers and plateaus with oysters on West Village menus, read October 9, 2026.
Room Tower, as printed Price
Jeffrey’s Grocery Le Duchess: 2 oysters, 2 littlenecks, 2 shrimp, 2 smoked mussels, albacore conserva $29
Jeffrey’s Grocery Le Prince: 10 oysters, 4 shrimp, 4 littlenecks, crab salad $65
American Bar Petit Plateau: 10 oysters, 4 shrimp cocktail, hamachi crudo, tuna tartare, lobster salad $95
Jeffrey’s Grocery Le Royale: 12 oysters, 6 littlenecks, 6 shrimp, smoked mussels, lobster salad, a quarter pound of snow crab legs $125
The Clam The Leroy Tower: 8 oysters, 4 shrimp, 4 raw clams, Maine lobster tail, Peruvian ceviche $125
Jeffrey’s Grocery Le Jeffrey: 16 oysters, 8 littlenecks, 8 shrimp, smoked mussels, albacore conserva, lobster salad, half a pound of snow crab legs $159

Jeffrey’s also offers an ounce of caviar on any plateau for $50 more. We do not build towers; our oysters come by the piece, six at least.

Names to cross off older lists

Oyster roundups outlive the oyster bars in them. These three names still appear, and this is what we found on October 9, 2026.

  • Pearl Oyster Bar, 18 Cornelia Street. Its Wikipedia entry records that its final day was October 29, 2022. Its old web address now forwards to an unrelated site, so do not follow it.
  • Fish, 280 Bleecker Street. Older guides describe a daily oyster-and-drink special there, at prices that differ from guide to guide. Its website did not load for us on October 9, so we could not confirm the special or the price; call before you go.
  • Mary’s Fish Camp. Its site says it is back, open from 11:00 AM, to 10:00 PM Monday to Saturday and 5:00 PM on Sunday, but it posts no menu, so it is not in our tables.

Our oysters, honestly

Our West Village menu lists fresh oysters from Maine at $3 each, freshly shucked, with a minimum of six, so the smallest order is $18. At happy hour the online menu prices them at six for $12, twelve for $24, eighteen for $36 and twenty-four for $48, with extra oysters at $2. Those are the lowest oyster prices we found printed anywhere in the West Village.

We do not print the hours our happy hour runs, which is a gap we should close, so call 646-490-4301 before you plan around it. Doors open at 3:00 PM from Monday to Thursday, at 2:00 PM on Friday, at noon on Saturday and at 1:00 PM on Sunday; closing time is 11:00 PM, pushed back to midnight on Friday and Saturday. The heated backyard garden is open behind the bar, and our backyard garden bar guide shows it.

What we are not is a seafood restaurant. There is one kind of oyster on our menu, no towers, no granita and no choice of coasts, and the front room shows the game. If you want to compare a Pacific with an Atlantic, Jeffrey’s Grocery is six minutes away and does it properly.

Which raw bar for which night

Four rooms, four ways to order oysters, each described from its own menu or, for us, our own.

Jeffrey’s Grocery, 172 Waverly Place. Six minutes from us.

  • Best for choice: Atlantic, Pacific and small-batch oysters, plateaus from $29 to $159, and a weekday oyster happy hour from 3:30 to 5:30 PM.
  • Skip if you want to know the happy-hour price in advance; the site does not print it.

The Clam, 420 Hudson Street. Five minutes from us.

  • Best for a taste rather than a meal: three oysters for $15, or the Leroy Tower at $125 for a table.
  • Skip if it is Sunday or Monday, or after 10:00 PM; its site lists Tuesday to Saturday, noon to 10:00 PM.

Dante West Village, 551 Hudson Street. Five minutes from us.

  • Best for oysters with a cocktail program: $27 a half dozen with lime and ginger granita, and outdoor seats on Hudson Street.
  • Skip if price per oyster is the point; at $4.33 to $4.50 it is among the dearest on the list.

The Beer Garage, 118 Christopher Street. Our own bar, a short walk from the Christopher St-Stonewall station on the 1.

  • Best for paying least: $3 an oyster, $2 at happy hour, eaten under the heaters in the garden.
  • Skip if you want a choice of oysters or a tower; we serve one kind, from Maine.

Raw shellfish, and 21 with ID

Raw or undercooked shellfish can raise the risk of foodborne illness, as the Dante menus remind diners, and that is true of every oyster on this page, ours included. If you are pregnant, have a weakened immune system or a shellfish allergy, ask before ordering. Every room here also serves alcohol, so bring an ID that shows you are 21.

Before you go: five warnings

  1. Happy-hour prices are half printed. Jeffrey’s and Carta print the time but not the price; we print the price but not the time. Call first.
  2. Minimums change the math. Our $3 oysters come six at least, so the cheapest order is $18; The Clam’s three for $15 is the smallest priced order on the list.
  3. The Clam keeps short hours. Tuesday to Saturday, noon to 10:00 PM, by its own hours page.
  4. Dante’s site gives two closing times. Its reservations page says Hudson Street is open until 1:00 AM, and its hours page says midnight.
  5. Prices are before tax and tip. A $28 half dozen is more than $28 when the bill comes.

How we checked

Every raw-bar listing here was read on the room’s own website on October 9, 2026, including the PDF menus it links to: Dante’s West Village food menu dated September 23, 2026 and its Bank Street food menu dated August 23, 2026, and American Bar’s menu dated July 24, 2026. The per-oyster figure is the printed price divided by the number of oysters, rounded to the cent. Hours come from each room’s own hours page.

How we checked

Google Maps, in walking mode, timed each route from our Christopher Street door. Our own oyster prices come from the West Village menu and the online ordering page. Nobody paid to be included, every price excludes tax and tip, and we visited none of the other raw bars for this guide.

For oysters as the start of the evening, ours are the least expensive printed in the West Village, at least 75 cents below everyone else per oyster, and $2 at happy hour.
