Madison Square Garden is the only NHL arena inside New York City, and on a Rangers home night the rooms around Penn Station fill up well before the anthem. Road nights are simpler. The game is on television, and the question becomes which bar has actually said it will show hockey.

This guide to where to watch NHL hockey in Manhattan is built from what the bars and the teams publish themselves, read on September 22, 2026. It covers Rangers fans first, then Islanders, Devils and visiting fans, and it tells you when our own West Village room is a good call and when it is not. For Brooklyn and Queens, see where to watch NHL hockey in New York; for the blocks around our own bar, see where to watch NHL hockey in the West Village.

Short answer

To watch NHL hockey in Manhattan, start with Mustang Harry’s at 352 7th Avenue, whose own site says it shows every major NHL game, Rangers included, or Playwright Celtic Pub at 732 8th Avenue, open until 4:00 AM. Devils and Islanders fans have Kelly’s Sports Bar, which lists both teams. The Beer Garage West Village is five subway stops from the Garden.

Gluten-free food is in Brooklyn, not on this page

Every bar here is in Manhattan, and our Manhattan room at 118 Christopher Street runs a standard kitchen whose menu labels no dish gluten-free. The Beer Garage kitchen that is 100 per cent gluten-free is in Park Slope, Brooklyn, at 148 5th Avenue. Beer is a separate matter, since most of it is brewed from barley. We have not looked at the kitchens of the other Manhattan bars listed here, so ask them directly; with celiac disease, the staff are your best source, and nothing on this page is medical advice.

The Rangers’ October, game by game

The Rangers opened the regular season on the road in Boston, and one of their three games from October 22 to October 31 is at the Garden. Dates and start times below come from the NHL’s own schedule data, read on October 20, 2026 and converted from UTC to Eastern Time. The TV column lists US channels only. The last column is how many minutes our West Village room stays open after puck drop that night, using the closing times on our website footer.

New York Rangers schedule, October 22 to November 5, 2026, for anyone planning where to watch NHL hockey in Manhattan. Source: NHL schedule data, read October 20, 2026. All times Eastern; start times and channels can change.
Date Game Puck drop US TV Minutes until our West Village room closes
Thursday, October 22 Rangers at Toronto Maple Leafs 7:00 PM MSG Network 240
Saturday, October 24 Rangers at Ottawa Senators 7:00 PM MSG Network 300
Monday, October 26 Los Angeles Kings at Rangers (the Garden) 7:00 PM MSG Network 240
Sunday, November 1 Edmonton Oilers at Rangers (the Garden) 6:00 PM MSG Network 300
Tuesday, November 3 St. Louis Blues at Rangers (the Garden) 7:00 PM MSG Network 240
Thursday, November 5 Philadelphia Flyers at Rangers (the Garden) 7:00 PM MSG Network 240

Three nights need planning. The October 22 and 24 trips to Toronto and Ottawa are when Manhattan’s Canadian hockey bar, covered below, is worth knowing. And on Thursday, November 5 all three local teams start at 7:00 PM: the Rangers host the Flyers on MSG Network, the Devils host the Blues on MSG Sportsnet, and the Islanders host the Hurricanes on ESPN+, Hulu and Disney+ only, so expect a divided room and ask which game a bar will show.

Which channel to ask for

MSG Network, the Rangers’ local channel, carries all 6 games from October 22 to November 5; none of them is national-only. Which channels a bar carries is its own choice, so when you call, ask for MSG Network by name rather than just “the Rangers game”. That one question settles most October nights.

Manhattan bars that promise hockey in writing

We read Manhattan sports bars’ own websites for the words hockey, NHL or a team name. Plenty of rooms near the Garden are busy on game nights without saying anything about showing the game. These five say it plainly.

Where to watch NHL hockey in Manhattan: sports bars whose own websites say they show hockey, read September 22, 2026. Hours as published by each bar, all times Eastern. Quotes are from each bar’s site.
Bar Where What the bar’s own site says Published hours
Mustang Harry’s, 352 7th Ave Penn Station area Shows “all major NFL, NBA, MLB, and NHL games, including New York Rangers” games; 20+ HDTVs and surround sound; recommends booking a table for Rangers games Mon to Sat 11:30 AM to 3:00 AM; Sun to 1:00 AM
Playwright Celtic Pub, 732 8th Ave Theater District Lists hockey among its sports, on “four floors of wall to wall HD TV screens” Daily 10:00 AM to 4:00 AM
Dave and Buster’s Times Square, 234 W 42nd St, 3rd floor Times Square Screens for “football, basketball, and hockey games”, including a 40-foot wall screen Sun 10:00 AM to midnight; Mon and Tue 11:00 AM to midnight; Wed and Thu to 1:00 AM; Fri to 2:00 AM; Sat 10:00 AM to 2:00 AM
The Canuck, 202 9th Ave Chelsea Calls itself “NYC’s Premier Canadian Hockey & Sports Bar” Mon to Fri 4:00 PM to 2:00 AM; Sat noon to 4:00 AM; Sun noon to 2:00 AM
Kelly’s Sports Bar, 1154 2nd Ave and 12 Avenue A Upper East Side; East Village “Every Sabres game plus Rangers, Islanders, Devils, and the full NHL slate” Daily from noon; closing time not published

Two more rooms near the Garden are worth knowing, for different reasons. Bourbon and Branch at 155 West 33rd Street has a page on its own site for drinks before or after Garden events, lists Rangers nights among them, keeps its kitchen open late and takes reservations before every Garden event; it does not say it shows the games on TV. Overlook at 225 East 44th Street is on the Islanders’ own bar list, covered below, and its site lists 30-plus HDTVs and two jumbotrons, though the only hockey it mentions there is college hockey.

Mustang Harry’s, 352 7th Avenue. The one Manhattan bar we found that says on its own site that it shows NHL games, names the Rangers, and is also on the team’s own Tap Takeover list.

  • Best for a Rangers home night when you want to stay near Penn Station before and after the game.
  • Skip if you arrive at 6:45 PM without a booking; its own site advises reserving online for Rangers games.

The Rangers’ Tap Takeover bars

The Rangers run a bar program on the team’s website for nights when fans cannot get to the Garden or the team is on the road: Tap Takeover locations, presented by Michelob Ultra. Read on September 22, 2026, it listed 13 bars in Manhattan. One caution before you rely on it: the page still invites fans to enjoy the Centennial season, which was 2025-26, so treat it as last season’s list until the team updates it, and call before you go.

Manhattan bars on the New York Rangers Tap Takeover page, as listed on the Rangers website on September 22, 2026. We did not read these bars’ own sites for hours unless named elsewhere on this page.
Bar Address
Tailor Public House 505 8th Ave

3 Sheets 134 W 3rd St
The Stumble Inn 1454 2nd Ave
Magic Hour Rooftop Bar and Lounge 485 7th Ave, 18th floor
Mustang Harry’s 352 7th Ave
Pig n Whistle Pub 202 W 36th St

Storehouse 757 6th Ave
The Celly 332 9th Ave
The Pioneer 138 W 29th St
The Keg Room 53 W 36th St

Of the 13, Mustang Harry’s is the only one we found that also says on its own site that it shows NHL games; ten others say nothing about hockey, and we could not read the sites of Storehouse and The Celly. They are on the list because the team put them there. The Rangers keep a separate bar takeover page for the Stanley Cup Playoffs, which is not a promise for October.

Islanders, Devils and visiting fans

Islanders fans

The Islanders’ own bar list, Isles on Tap, names one Manhattan bar: Overlook, 225 East 44th Street, in Midtown East. Kelly’s Sports Bar also lists the Islanders on its site. Most Islanders games are on MSG Sportsnet, but the Thursday, October 22 home game against the Los Angeles Kings, 7:30 PM ET, streams only on ESPN+, Hulu and Disney+, so ask whether a bar can show it.

Devils fans

The Devils’ bar network page returned “not found” when we checked on September 22, 2026, so there is no team list to lean on. In Manhattan, Kelly’s Sports Bar is the one bar we found whose own site names the Devils. On Thursday, October 22 the Devils host the Anaheim Ducks at 7:00 PM ET, the same hour as the Rangers’ game in Toronto, so any single-screen room will have to choose.

Canadian and other visiting fans

If your team plays in Canada, The Canuck in Chelsea is built around you. The Rangers visit Toronto and Ottawa on October 22 and 24 and host Edmonton on November 1. Buffalo fans have Kelly’s, which calls itself the NYC home of the Sabres.

Our West Village room on a hockey night

The Beer Garage does not claim a team, does not publish a screen count and is on no team’s bar list. What the West Village room offers a hockey fan in Manhattan is location and a closing time you can plan around.

The Beer Garage West Village, 118 Christopher Street. Our website footer lists Monday to Thursday 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM ET, Friday 2:00 PM to midnight, Saturday noon to midnight and Sunday 1:00 PM to 11:00 PM; our Google listing shows different hours, so call before an early visit. A standard kitchen, 37 beer and cider lines and a heated backyard garden.

  • Best for before or after a Garden game. Christopher St-Stonewall is three minutes from the door, and the 1 train reaches 34 St-Penn Station in five stops: 14th, 18th, 23rd and 28th Streets, then Penn Station.
  • Also good for the Sunday home game on November 1 at 6:00 PM ET, which leaves 300 minutes before our footer closing time.
  • Skip if you want a room full of Rangers jerseys; Mustang Harry’s and the Tap Takeover bars are built for that. Skip us too if you need gluten-free food, which is in Park Slope.
  • Possible downside a small room with no booking link. Groups of more than four should call 646-490-4301 first.

21 and over

Every bar on this page serves alcohol, and New York State requires valid ID showing you are 21 or older. Overtime and a shootout stretch a weeknight game, so settle the ride home before the third period.

Which Manhattan bar for your game?

Two questions, sixteen answers. Several of them point you away from our room, because the right bar depends on the team and the night.

1. Whose game is it?

Use the tables above: Mustang Harry’s, Playwright Celtic Pub, Dave and Buster’s Times Square, The Canuck and Kelly’s Sports Bar say on their own sites that they show hockey, and the Rangers list 13 Manhattan Tap Takeover bars.

How we checked

How we checked

Every bar claim on this page comes from the bar’s own website or from a team’s website, read on September 22, 2026: the Rangers’ Tap Takeover page, the Islanders’ Isles on Tap page, and the Devils’ bar network page, which returned “not found”. Where a site gives no hours, the table says so. We read more than thirty Manhattan sports bar sites; those that never mention hockey are left out, even when they are popular on game nights.

Game dates, puck drops and channels come from the NHL’s schedule data, read on October 20, 2026 and converted from UTC to Eastern Time. The minutes column is our website’s closing time minus puck drop, before any overtime. We did not visit the other bars, and no ranking of ours is implied.

For a Rangers fan heading to or from the Garden, yes: it is three minutes from the 1 train, five stops from Penn Station, and a 7:00 PM ET puck drop leaves 240 minutes before our website’s weeknight closing time. It does not claim a team or publish a screen count, and its kitchen is standard; the gluten-free one is in Park Slope.

The verdict

For where to watch NHL hockey in Manhattan, the Rangers make it easy and the other teams make you call. On a Rangers night, Mustang Harry’s is the bar that has said everything a fan wants to hear, and Playwright Celtic Pub is the one still open at 4:00 AM. Islanders fans have Overlook; Devils fans have Kelly’s; Canadian fans have The Canuck.

And if the night starts or ends at the Garden and you would rather drink somewhere smaller, our West Village room is five stops down the 1 train, open late enough for every Rangers game in October.
