It is a brick room with a blue lit bar, a heated backyard garden and 37 beer and cider lines. The West Village kitchen is standard, not gluten-free.

Which kitchen is the gluten-free one

The Beer Garage kitchen at 148 5th Avenue in Park Slope, Brooklyn is 100 per cent gluten-free and prints that on its own menu header. The West Village kitchen at 118 Christopher Street is a standard kitchen: its menu lists panko, brioche, hero rolls, flour tortillas and breadcrumbs, and no dish there is offered as gluten-free. If you need a gluten-free kitchen, ride to Brooklyn. Readers with celiac disease should ask staff and use their own judgment; this is not medical advice.

What the room is like

The sports bar in the West Village is a narrow brick box with a long blue lit bar down one side, hand written boards above the taps, and a heated backyard garden through the back. It is smaller than the Brooklyn room and reads more like a neighborhood pub than a garage: exposed brick instead of corrugated metal, wooden four tops along the wall, license plates and a Corona sign out in the garden rather than hubcaps on the wall. The boards behind the bar are where the beer list actually lives, which is why a photograph of them ages faster than a menu does.

The brick room at the sports bar in the West Village, 118 Christopher Street. Photo from The Beer Garage media library.

The garden is the reason most people pick this room over another sports bar in the West Village in October and November. It is heated, it is behind the building rather than on the sidewalk, and it seats a good part of the room’s capacity. It has its own page, because it deserves more than a paragraph: the heated backyard garden in the West Village.

Possible downside. This is a small room. On a Saturday with a big game on, the bar rail fills first and the garden fills second, and there is no reservation link published on the West Village listing, so a group of six arriving at kickoff is taking a chance. The Brooklyn room takes reservations through OpenTable; this one, as of September 16, 2026, does not publish a booking link at all. Call ahead on 646-490-4301 if you are more than four people.

Hours at the sports bar in the West Village

The West Village room opens at 12:00 PM ET most days according to Google, and at 3:00 PM ET on weeknights according to the website footer, and those two have not agreed for some time. Both are printed below with the date each was read. Google is what a phone shows when somebody searches for a sports bar in the West Village at 1:00 PM ET, so that is the grid used in this page’s structured data, and it is the one to trust for an early arrival until the two are synced.

Opening hours for The Beer Garage, the sports bar in the West Village at 118 Christopher Street. Our online ordering menu, read September 25, 2026, names all 37 beer and cider lines by brewery, and nine of them are New York breweries: Braven in Bushwick, Brooklyn, Five Boroughs, Finback in Queens, Keg & Lantern in Greenpoint, Radiant Pig, Montauk, Catskill and Big Ditch in Buffalo. Drafts run from $8 for Bud Light to $12 for Delirium, and most are $10; a flight is $16, a pitcher $35, a crowler $16 and a growler $25 with a $15 refill.

The honest comparison is a five minute walk away. Blind Tiger Ale House at 281 Bleecker Street calls itself the city’s premier craft beer bar, publishes a live 28-draft list with about a dozen New York State brewers, pours at $9 to $12 and stays open until 4:00 AM. If rare beer is the point of the night, it is the better room. TALEA, the brewery taproom 180 feet from our door at 102 Christopher Street, pours its own beer until 10:00 PM on weeknights and midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.

What we are is a sports bar that keeps 37 lines and prints every price, with a heated garden to drink them in. The full Manhattan comparison, taproom by taproom, is in our guide to a craft beer bar in Manhattan; the cocktail side of the same room is in the cocktail bar in the West Village guide.

Cider bar in the West Village: our cider, and who else pours one

A Google Maps search for a cider bar in the West Village on October 1, 2026 turned up no room that specializes in it, so the useful question is which bars print a cider on their own menus. Ours lists a cider at $10, without naming the cidery, and an Apple Cider Spritz at $13, one of seven spritzes at that price. Six neighbors within a 12-minute walk print a cider too.

Ciders printed on bar menus in and around the West Village, read October 1, 2026, sorted by walk from 118 Christopher Street.

Bar

Walk from us

Cider on its own menu

Price printed

The Beer Garage, 118 Christopher St

You are here

A cider on the beer list, cidery not named; Apple Cider Spritz

$10; $13

Due West, 189 W 10th St

4 minutes

Shacksbury Dry, from New York

$14

Blind Tiger Ale House, 281 Bleecker St

5 minutes

Downeast Blackberry on draft; Downeast Original Blend in cans

$9 for 16 oz; $8

Down the Hatch, 179 W 4th St

6 minutes

Downeast on draft

Not printed

Houston Hall, 222 W Houston St

9 minutes

Downeast, labeled gluten-free

$11, $15 or $27 by size; $9 at happy hour

Art Bar, 52 8th Ave

10 minutes

Angry Orchard, Downeast Unfiltered and Black Widow; a hot spiked cider

$6.50 each; $12

The Half Pint, 76 W 3rd St

12 minutes

Downeast on draft; a Hudson North seasonal

$6 for 10 oz, $10 for 20 oz; $10

Downeast, from Boston, is on five of the six neighbors’ menus, so the cider you are most likely to be poured nearby is the same one. Blind Tiger’s is the only list here with an update time on it, Due West’s $14 Shacksbury is the most expensive glass, and Houston Hall is the only bar that labels its cider gluten-free. Our West Village kitchen is a standard one; the fully gluten-free kitchen is at our Park Slope room, where we also compared every Park Slope cider list.

Watching a game at the sports bar in the West Village

Google files the sports bar in the West Village under the Sports bar category and the screens run the full line up: NFL Sundays, weeknight NBA and NHL, baseball through the summer and into October, and the soccer that the neighborhood asks for. The honest part is what we do not publish. The Beer Garage has never posted a screen count or a sound policy for either room, and a reader comparing bars on published facts will notice that.

Possible downside, stated plainly. Houston Hall, ten minutes east at 222 West Houston Street, publishes four 12 foot screens on its own website. We publish no number at all. If the thing that decides your night is how many screens there are and whether the sound is on for your game, call 646-490-4301 and ask what is on before you walk over, because this page will not pretend to know. That is a gap the house can close with one sentence, and until it does, a bigger room with a published screen count is a fair choice.

What this room does have going for it on a game day is position and price. It is three minutes from the 1 train, the happy hour drinks are $8 and the happy hour plates are $12, and if the room is full the heated garden out back is a second room rather than a queue on the sidewalk.

When another bar is the better call

There are nights when a bar other than the sports bar in the West Village is the right answer, and pretending otherwise would not help anybody. Everything below comes from each venue’s own website, read on September 16, 2026, except where it says Google listing.

Due West, 189 West 10th Street. Its own site publishes Monday to Thursday from 5:00 PM ET, Friday from 4:00 PM ET, Saturday and Sunday from 12:00 PM ET with brunch until 3:00 PM ET, happy hour Monday to Thursday 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM ET, and a reservation form. Catering for offsite events runs through ezCater.

One note on ordering: the bar’s own online ordering page for 118 Christopher Street was showing that it was not accepting online orders when it was checked on September 16, 2026, even though the full menu and prices were still published there. Grubhub was the working delivery route on that date. Hours, category, rating and phone came from the location’s own Google Business Profile and from the footer of beergarageny.com, and where they disagreed both were printed rather than one picked.

Food prices came from the printed West Village menu. Drink and happy hour prices came from the bar’s own online ordering menu for 118 Christopher Street, where 37 beer and cider lines were counted one by one. All seven walking times were measured in Google Maps walking mode from the named station or landmark to 118 Christopher Street on the same day, not estimated.

Competitor facts came from each venue’s own website, and the two figures that came from a Google listing instead say so in the sentence. No review site, roundup or list page was used as a source for any fact here. The Beer Garage at 118 Christopher Street has a heated backyard garden and 37 beer and cider lines, and a gluten-free kitchen at its Park Slope room in Brooklyn.

Is The Beer Garage in the West Village a sports bar?

Yes. Google files 118 Christopher Street under the Sports bar category, the screens carry the full line up through the NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB and soccer seasons, and the room is built around a long bar rather than a dining room. What it does not publish is a screen count or a sound policy, so if your night depends on a specific game being on with sound, call 646-490-4301 first. The answer changes by night.

What time does the sports bar in the West Village open?

Google shows 12:00 PM ET Monday through Friday, 11:00 AM ET on Saturday and 12:00 PM ET on Sunday, as of September 16, 2026. The website footer still shows 3:00 PM ET on weeknights, 2:00 PM ET on Friday, 12:00 PM ET on Saturday and 1:00 PM ET on Sunday. The two have not been synced. Google is what a phone shows, so trust it for an early arrival, and call 646-490-4301 to be certain.

Is the food at the West Village location gluten-free?

No. The West Village kitchen at 118 Christopher Street is a standard kitchen and nothing on its menu is offered as gluten-free; the menu lists panko, brioche, hero rolls, flour tortillas and breadcrumbs. The 100 per cent gluten-free kitchen is the Park Slope room at 148 5th Avenue in Brooklyn, which prints that on its menu header. Readers with celiac disease should ask staff and use their own judgment.

How do I get to 118 Christopher Street on the subway?

Take the 1 train to Christopher St-Stonewall and walk three minutes west along Christopher Street, 0.1 mile. The PATH from New Jersey stops at Christopher Street, also three minutes away. From the A, C, E, B, D, F or M at W 4 St-Washington Sq it is seven minutes across Waverly Place. From 14 St-8 Av on the A, C, E or L it is 13 minutes. All measured September 16, 2026.

Does the West Village location take reservations?

No booking link is published for the sports bar in the West Village at 118 Christopher Street, on its Google listing or on the website, as of September 16, 2026, so plan to walk in and call 646-490-4301 for a group of more than four. The Brooklyn room is different: The Beer Garage in Park Slope takes reservations through OpenTable. For a private party at either room, phone or email rather than an app.

Is there a cider bar in the West Village?

A Google Maps search on October 1, 2026 found no bar in the West Village that specializes in cider, but several print one. The Beer Garage at 118 Christopher Street lists a cider at $10 and an Apple Cider Spritz at $13, Blind Tiger pours Downeast Blackberry at $9 for 16 oz, and Houston Hall labels its Downeast cider gluten-free.

Is The Beer Garage a craft beer bar in the West Village?

It is a sports bar with a craft-leaning list: 37 beer and cider lines named by brewery on our online ordering menu, read September 25, 2026, nine of them from New York breweries, with drafts from $8 to $12 and most at $10, a $16 flight and a $35 pitcher. For a rare-beer room, Blind Tiger Ale House at 281 Bleecker Street, five minutes away, publishes a live 28-draft list and is open until 4:00 AM; we would send a beer hunter there and keep the game, the garden and the prices.

The verdict

The Beer Garage on Christopher Street is a small, warm, brick neighborhood bar that happens to carry a proper beer list and a heated garden, and it is three minutes from a train. If that is the night you want, it is a good sports bar in the West Village and the price of a round says so: $10 for most of the list, $8 in happy hour, $12 for a happy hour plate. If you need a screen count, a booked table or a gluten-free kitchen, this page has told you plainly where to go instead, and two of those three answers are one subway ride away in Brooklyn.

<h2
